The Ungrest of Gaekloungoerzaghun (Gvurrdon 2129) are a technologically advanced Minor Non-Human Race with a Non-humanoid appearance.
Physiology & Environment (Ecology)[edit]
The Ungrest descend from a desert-dwelling carnivore. The species has a thick hide, almost chitin-like in substance. They are somewhat hunched. When rolled up they are totally hidden behind their shell-like back, which gives them very good protection. Their appearance is almost insect-like, which can scare unwary travellers as they uncurl. They are quite small and stocky, but not clumsy despite appearances.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Even before the Vargr contacted this race, they had acquired technology enough to start a space programme. The first contact with Vargr and Humans accelerated this process. They claim to have developed Jump Drive on their own, but this is widely considered to be a lie. Regardless of their attempt to boost their prestige, they are not able to use the jump technology to its fullest, due to the fact that they can’t survive a jump. As such, in this field they are still TL–9.
The Ungrest do use unmanned jump launches, which are craft ranging from 100 to 300 tons. These are used to move supplies fast through the system, and to the neighboring system that they have started to colonize. The Ungrest move through interstellar space with STL ships, powered by a ramscoop.
They have twenty-two ramscoop ships which have been in service for more than 400 years. The ships have been updated several times over the centuries. The parts of these ships range from TL–11 to TL–15. New ships are planned that utilize Thruster technology and new TL–15 power plants instead of the TL–12 ones. They are expected to enter service from 1121 onwards.
Psychology & Philosophy (Mindset)[edit]
The Ungrest are quite aggressive, but not outright hostile.
Technology & Trade (Economy)[edit]
Various merchants do trade with them, but any technology is largely unavailable, as it is greatly specified for the race. The Ungrest are unwilling to sell technology to "inferior" traders. This might stem from a paranoia that the tech might be turned against them. However it is possible to buy other, non-technical items like foodstuffs and art.
