3. EXTERNAL LINK: Many discussions of the economics of interstellar shipping assume that there is unlimited capital in practical terms, so that any shipping must necessarily be skating along the edge of failure because of competition. If your ship can only make 49 jumps a year instead of 50 like other ships, it is not just risky, it is Utterly Totally DOOMED. To the point where no loans will be available because the ship will be derelict as soon as the grubstake runs out.
