Era: New Era

Taa has both an unbreathably thin atmosphere and a lack of surface water making habitation by sophonts difficult. The system has a population between 10,000 and 10 million, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. It is a member of Wilds in the Pretoria Subsector of Deneb Sector. 20% of the world's population is the Major Race Vargr.

Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]

Because of the two jump bridges maintained at hexes 0405 and 0407, Taa is directly connected to 32 Imperial worlds by a Jump-1 route that ranges throughout Pretoria and enters both Aramis and Lamas subsectors.

This world is located on the Marzian Loop.

Stellar Data[edit]

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Although Taa has never been a significant world, a class-A starport was built to take advantage of an expected upswing in crossborder traffic. For a time the port was prosperous as shipping companies tried to expand into the region. The transborder run was handled by specialist merchant lines, adept at negotiating the customs and legal difficulties encountered when crossing from the Vargr Extents into Imperial space. The situation was positive for over 20 years, but the port at Taa never became profitable enough to pay back its costs. Maintenance was deferred and parts of the installation fell into disrepair. The port was then sold, in time being purchased at a bargain price by what became the Taa Starport Company, which is partially funded by the Akhstuti.

World Starport (St)[edit]

Taa has a Class A Starport, an excellent quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and other kinds of repair, and construction of both starships and non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Taa has a population of 3,000,000 sophonts (millions).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Taa possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World Government (G)[edit]

Taa is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.

World Military[edit]

There is a native-built class of ship noted for its unusual design; the Ballista Class Solar Sailor, which has some military applications. They serve in the Taa Navy.

World Law (L)[edit]

Taa has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Machine guns, other automatic weapons, portable energy weapons, and other military weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.
