Oculus Alignment
Cornered in the Rimward-Trailing edge of Knoellighz Sector, the Oculus Alignment (OA or Vo on the map) polity claims 16 parsecs (hexes) of territory and populates it with 8 worlds, two of which reach Trailing into Llako Subsector of Dhuerorrg Sector. The Oculus Alignment features two Naval Bases and one Corsair Base (consisting of Marque-d privateers).

Goals[edit]
The Oculus Alignment seeks to annex the rest of the Zarthurrue Subsector. As the rest of Knoellighz Sector's polities seem to aim for Coreward expansion, the Alignment is no different, just slower-paced.
- By the end of the distant Fifth Frontier War, the Alignment hopes to court worlds two parsecs Coreward of its 1105 borders.
- At the turn of the Rebellion, the Alignment seeks to annex Zarthurrue worlds four to six parsecs Coreward of its 1105 borders.
- Using the Hard Times era as a plea for mutual survival, the Oculus Alignment hopes to dominate or otherwise encourage membership of the entire subsector and minor parts of Llako subsector, Dhuerorrg

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
This polity is the first and smallest empire to solidify upon the colonization of Knoellighz Sector. However, due to poor world selection, the Oculus Alignment suffers a stunted growth throughout the history of the sector. Hence, the other polities of Knoellighz Sector out-distance them and claim more worlds through the centuries.

Government & Politics (Leadership)[edit]
Many of the governments on the worlds of the Oculus Alignment are decentralized and as such the entire polity can only agree on a corporate, business structure to keep things running smoothly. This is another reason why the polity has not expanded as quickly as more decisive empires in Knoellighz Sector. Balkanized worlds, anarchic states, and democracies take the major lead in the Alignment. and on some worlds the Population is too low to care about their individual rulership. Yet, the worlds of the Alignment manage to come together like a board of directors under a COO leadership at the capital (c.1105) of Kourrgenong (Knoellighz 2740). The harsh environment of the capital provides the volatile backdrop that seems to spur the 'board' into actions rather than debate.
- Due to the Oculus Alignment's small size, it has to play a careful game with the neighboring Ascendancy Pact and Bakne Alliance. There is a sector-wide, "dog-eat-dog" mentality and this stresses the ambassadors of the Alignment to no end. Corsairs, possibly in the pay of other polities as privateers, from Zarthurrue and Llako subsectors are a hurdle the Alignment Navy is hard-pressed to chase into the unclaimed territories Coreward.
- The Oculus Alignment has functioning interactions with the Pact of Gaerr in Gvurrdon Sector and the Rranglloez Stronghold in Tuglikki Sector. Knowing that the Bakne Alliance and the distant Democracy of Greats are bold enough to cross the gulf between them and Oculus Alignment territory means that caution is taken not to fully provoke the Navies of those empires.
- Were it not cut off from the Infinity League by the Ascendancy Pact, the Oculus Alignment might see corporate parallels and be willing to conduct trade. However, the lack of any Jump-1 mains makes the Alignment less than desirable for many traders who might leap from the Bridge of Destiny to try their hand.
- Even though there is little-to-none engagement with the Navies of the Ascendancy Pact, the independent states between them and the Oculus Alignment serve as enough of a buffer to keep tensions from spurring a full conflict. Piracy is more common between the two polities than Naval engagements. This is something the Alignment would like to keep status quo.
- The polity motto, like a corporate slogan reads, "Oculus Alignment: Our worlds see eye-to-eye."

Military & Intelligence (Force Projection)[edit]
Added to previously mention reasons of the polity, the Oculus Alignment also suffers slow growth of its Navy and ground forces. With its only Industrial planet constantly raining acid from the skies, its factories and assembly lines have to export major ship components to other member worlds for final assembly and maiden flights. This puts the Charisma in the hands of worlds on the far end of the polity when a new vessel pulls from the shipyard. The Oculus Alignment has but one medium-to-large fleet that patrols the entire polity, while each member world focuses on aerospace defenses and its meager ground forces. This might make the Oculus Alignment seem easy prey, but for the lack of a draw to this part of Knoellighz Sector.
- The Oculus Alignment's forces can match up to the likes of the Pact of Gaerr or make a stand against the Rranglloez Stronghold, but take special care not to provoke the wrath of the Ascendancy Pact, the Bakne Alliance or the distant Democracy of Greats, all of which around 1105 have their sights set Coreward and the frontier of the Vargr Extents while trying to keep solid their delicate polities.
- The military is often more occupied with responding to internal emergencies, such as exodus from doomed and failing worlds. At 1105, it was decided that KOURRGENONG (2740) was doomed if it could not reduce its Population of 5 billion and emigrate its citizens to other polity worlds. Also around this time, analysts found that Khoeroeztukhz (3238) was failing due to increasing air pollution from mined radioactives and the refining it takes to process the finds.
- Thus, the only true fighting asset the Oculus Alignment can field outside its borders is the Hunters' Bawn privateer band out of Touaenfaez (3140), another slowly-failing mining system as asteroids collapse from extensive extraction. The privateers prey upon all borders outside the Oculus Alignment, but refuse to respond when the Alignment asks for defense aid.

Worlds & Sectors (Astrography)[edit]
Cornered in the Rimward-Trailing edge of Knoellighz Sector, the Oculus Alignment (OA or Vo on the map) claims 16 parsecs (hexes) of territory and populates it with 8 worlds, two of which reach Trailing into Llako Subsector of Dhuerorrg Sector. The Oculus Alignment supports two Naval Bases and one Corsair Base (consisting of Marque-d privateers).
To Trailing can be found the Pact of Gaerr and Rranglloez Stronghold polities in Gvurrdon and Tuglikki Sectors respectively. To Trailing, in Dhuerorrg Sector, looms the Bakne Alliance. A short distance to Spinward is the polity of the Ascendancy Pact. A subsector or more Coreward is found the Democracy of Greats. This somewhat binds the Oculus Alignment polity into one subsector, Zarthurrue.
Member Worlds[edit]
Zarthurrue / Knoellighz
2740 Kourrgenong (CAC6977-5 Cx Fl Hi In)
Polity capital, with an insidious atmosphere. With a High Population of 5 billion, it is an industrial planet with its surface sheltered under domes. It is unfortunately doomed in less than five decades, suffering frequent catastrophes and accidents; most assets are in its highport orbit stations, adjacent to and needful of the Naval Base. Chemicals, manufacturing and refining make up its industries. There is a notable exodus to Orllouaegz and Aeakirfae.
2840 Gurroerrgeksgunn (D412436-8 Ic Ni)
This world has a thin atmosphere, low liquid water, and an ice-capped, cold climate requiring vacc suits. The ice caverns house 10,000 to 90,000 shivering Vargr in a self-perpetuating oligarchy; equatorial big-game fishing and whaling exports are the main industries.
3138 Orllouaegz (B746776-7 Ag Ga Ri)
With a thin and tainted atmosphere from cinnabar (mercury ore) mining and a cold climate, this is nonetheless a breadbasket world feeding the rest of the polity. As such, it is heavily guarded by the Navy, looming above the balkanized and competing nations on each continent. Immigration from Kourrgenong helps raise agriculture output.
3140 Touaenfaez (D000878-7 As Na)
This is a failing set of asteroid belts, ruled by Hunters' Bawn privateers; balkanized, privatized and registered with the Navy, corporate sabotage stunts this world from proper growth.
3237 Usullghourzok (B323100-C Lo Ni Po)
90 Vargr host the downport in a thin atmosphere without a government or codified law. Frequented by the Navy, it welcomes immigrants from Kourrgenong to fashion high-tech atmosphere processors for doomed environments, suffering production problems due to its low population. It is through this world's High-Tech gateway that the imported slaves from non-aligned and lawless worlds of Zarthurrue Subsector come (see Zarthurrue Triangle).
3238 Khoeroeztukhs (D67368D-2 Lt Ri)
Another slowly-failing world due to air pollution from more radioactives mining. Government is a Communistic Civil Service Bureaucracy that is considering exodus to Usullghourzok and limiting mining operation to minimal, hoping to curtail further pollution -- but this is not always obeyed.
Llako / Dhuerorrg
0139 Dadhou Zorz (B7A4446-A Fl Ni)
Fluid oceans produce chemicals refined for export by a Representative Democracy. The exotic atmosphere is harmless but does alter pitch in unfiltered breathers (higher helium content precipitating). Water is imported from Orllouaegz.
0140 Aeakirfae (A381133-A Lo Ni)
Downport only. Air-thinners are used but the atmosphere is tiresome to breathe outside. With a Low Population of 80+, this is an online black market hub visited by smugglers, privateers, Corsairs; a tavern-themed setting, its Self-perpetuating Oligarchy is oft-bribed by criminal elements or funded by the Oculus Alignment just to stay operational despite its low Law. It welcomes immigrants from Khoeroeztukhs and Kourrgenong in hopes of raising its value.
