Monsoom is a nonindustrial water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water.
- The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- It is a member of the Syzlin Republic in the Taitin Subsector of Crucis Margin Sector.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
This world borders the rift region known as the Pavlet Deep.
Stellar Data[edit]
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
As a member of the Syzlin Republic, this world sends representatives to the central government at Syzlin.
World Starport (St)[edit]
Monsoom has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Monsoom has a population of 7,000,000 sophonts (millions).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
World Government (G)[edit]
Monsoom is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
World Military[edit]
All ground forces, system defense vessels, planetary installations and Jump-capable naval vessels in the Syzlin Republic are under the direct control of the Republican President on Syzlin.
World Law Level (L)[edit]
Monsoom has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
World Technology Level (TL)[edit]
Monsoom possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
Planetary Timeline[edit]
- Deep in the Long Night: Syzlin, a subject world of the short-lived Kaiter Hegemony, gains control of a small fleet of starships in a military rebellion. These ships are used to drive Kaiter forces from the local cluster.
- -150: Syzlin begins to expand and takes full control of its cluster as the Syzlin Empire.
- Circa 500: The Empire peaks at 24 systems.
- 778: A rebellion on Osaka triggers the partial collapse of the Syzlin Empire, reducing it to six systems.
- Circa 800: A wave of reform sweeps through the remaining Syzlin Empire systems. A brief but bitter civil war results in a republic replacing the empire.
- Circa 950: The republic, itself expanding, controls 14 systems, some of which joined mostly voluntarily and some of which were conquered.
- 987: Republican forces cross the Pavlet Deep to assault and capture the virtually worthless world of Aldrikin, to interstellar confusion.
