Lunion, subsector K of Spinward Marches, contains 25 worlds with an estimated combined population of 20 billion. The governments in Lunion maintain seven Scout bases, four Naval bases, and one Way station. The average technology level is 9 (with most between 6 and 11). The highest technology level is 14 at Tenalphi (Spinward Marches 1826). Lunion contains 37 stars and 247 identified planets; 14 monostellar systems, ten binary systems, and one trinary system. 17 of the 25 systems (68%) have native gas giants. [1]

With most of its worlds on the Spinward Main and in close proximity to Mora, the Lunion subsector was settled early in the Imperial expansion into the Marches and contains a number of high-technology worlds. Most traffic bound for the Five Sisters and Darrian goes through Lunion, contributing to the local economy.[2]

The Lunion subsector forms a crossroads on the vast Spinward Main, linking the sector capital with the Sword Worlds to spinward, Lanth subsector to coreward and the Five Sisters subsector to spin-rimward. The Ling Standard Products yards at Strouden and Lunion are the main civil shipbuilding concerns for the entire Marches, while the Lunion School of Economics is famous for the quality of young corporate executives it produces. The subsector lies on edge of the vast, nearly starless region of space popularly known as “the Abyss” where, it is rumored, many a starship has mysteriously disappeared. [3]

Subsector assets belong to the 43rd Fleet, which is mainly concerned with keeping its section of the Spinward Main safe for navigation. Long-term guardship deployments are not uncommon, even in systems with minor starports. While tedious for the crews involved, such deployments go a long way towards deterring both piracy and smuggling. [2]

There is an enclave of Droyne on Spirelle, and a substantial population of Jonkeereen on Ianic.[3]
