Gaston-Kerr System[edit]

The primary is Gaston, a huge red giant star. It has a luminosity of 2587.5 Sols, a mass of 8.75 sols, and a diameter 455 million km – the corona extends to 1.52 AU, within orbital position (V). The inner system consists of (V) a large extremely hot gas giant, and (VIII) an exotic atmosphere stormworld – orbital positions (VI), (VII) and (IX) are empty. (X) Vance, an exotic atmosphere bigworld, orbits within the habitable zone: (Xb) Kerr is its outer satellite and is designated the mainworld. (XI) a dense atmosphere bigworld and (XII) a vacuum worldlet form the outer system. Both of the bigworlds retain satellites.

(X) Vance[edit]

(X) Vance (UWP Y9A0000-0) is categorised as a bigworld and orbits Gaston at a mean distance of 41.3 AU (6.178 billion km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 89 years 265 days and a rotation period of 48 hours. The axial tilt is 35 degrees. Vance has a diameter of 13,725 km, a density of 4.98 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.97 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Exotic, with a mean surface pressure of 3.35 bar and a composition of 94% carbon dioxide (CO2), 5% nitrogen (N2), and 1% argon (Ar), methane (CH4), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The world has no hydrographics. Mean surface temperature: 114°C. The atmosphere is extremely active and violent weather systems, driven by the star, surge across the globe. The climate is seasonal and weather patterns follow regular cycles during the local year.


World retains two natural satellites:

(Xa) Rand (UWP Y200000-0, orbiting at 25 Diameters/340,000 km)
(Xb) Kerr (UWP D201200-8, orbiting at 30 Diameters/410,000 km)

(Xb) Kerr[edit]

(Xb) Kerr is the outer satellite of (IX) Vance and is designated the mainworld. It orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 30 diameters (410,000 km) and has an orbital period of 34 days 10 hours: it is tidally locked to its parent world. The axial tilt is 12 degrees. Kerr has a diameter of 3,156 km, a density of 4.23 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.19 G. The world is geologically inert. The atmosphere is rated as Vacuum. Approximately 6% of the surface is covered in a crust of water-ice. Mean surface temperature: -65°C.

Kerr has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
