Kaa is a poor, low-population desert hellworld, with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts struggling to survive in a inhospitable environment.
- Living on a hellworld is a constant struggle. Nearly every day and sometimes even hourly, the inhabitants of this world face life-threatening challenges.
- This world has no free-standing water.
- It is a part of the Sath Exploration program in the As'Kaa Subsector of Course Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.
- Warning: Humans are not welcome within Sath-controlled areas. Those few humans that venture into their territory are generally met with a hostile reception and are closely monitored at all times.
Astrography and Planetology[edit]
This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.
- It is part of the Hak'tha Spread.
System Data[edit]
H'sakhaa-Kaa System[edit]
The primary is H'sakhaa, a yellow subdwarf star. It has a luminosity of 0.295 Sols, a mass of 0.586 Sols, and a diameter of 1.288 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a sparse stony planetoid belt – orbital position (II) is empty. (III) Aak'tha, an exotic atmosphere bigworld, orbits within the habitable zone: (IIIa) Kaa is its only satellite and is designated the mainworld. (IV) a vacuum worldlet and (V) a vacuum iceworld form the outer system. Only Aak'tha retains a satellite.
(III) Aak'tha[edit]
(III) Aak'tha (UWP Y9A1000-0) orbits H'sakhaa at a mean distance of 0.68 AU (101.7 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 267 days 13 hours and a rotation period of 51 hours. The axial tilt is 12 degrees. Aak'tha has a diameter of 10,347 km, a density of 6.19 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.91 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Exotic, with a mean surface pressure of 0.68 bar and a composition of 63% nitrogen (N2), 33% carbon dioxide (CO2), 2% azane (NH3), 1% carbon monoxide (CO), and 1% argon (Ar), sulfur dioxide (SO2), water vapor (H2O), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. Approximately 8% of the surface is covered in lakes of aqua ammonia, the result of water vapor condensing onto the surface and reacting with the azane in the air. Mean surface temperature: 67°C. The atmosphere is active and large weather systems, driven by the star, work across the globe: continent-sized electrical storms are common. The climate is seasonal and weather patterns follow regular cycles during the local year.
Mainworld Data[edit]
(IIIa) Kaa[edit]
(IIIa) Kaa is the only major satellite of Aak'tha and is designated the mainworld. It orbits Aak'tha at a mean distance of 20 diameters (207,000 km): it is tidally locked to Aak'tha. The axial tilt is 1 degree relative to Aak'tha. Kaa has a diameter of 4,723 km, a density of 4.82 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.32 G. The world is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.28 bar and a composition of 85% nitrogen (N2), 13% oxygen (O2), 1% carbon dioxide (CO2), and 1% argon (Ar), carbon monoxide (CO), sulfur dioxide (SO2), neon (Ne) and other trace gases: the taint is caused by the low percentage of oxygen and by gases of volcanic origin. Kaa is a desert world: approximately 4% of the surface is covered in lakes of liquid water. Mean surface temperature: 7°C. The atmosphere is sedentary and weak weather systems, driven by the star, crawl around the globe. The climate is static and weather patterns are influenced by local geography.
Mainworld geography and topography[edit]
Total surface area: 70 million km², Land surface area: 67 million km², Ice coverage: 0.5 million km², Water surface area: 2.5 million km².
Native lifeforms[edit]
Kaa, the mainworld, has extensive but primitive native life, consisting entirely of microscopic cyanobacteria-parallels that exist in any location where they can find even a minimal trace of water. Their metabolic processes maintain a cycle of atmospheric renewal.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
No information yet available.
World starport[edit]
Kaa has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World technology level[edit]
Kaa possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
- Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
- Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
- Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World government[edit]
Kaa is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referendum, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.
