Gulkis is a rich, nonindustrial water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water.
- The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
- It has high-grade living conditions and life on this world is much admired by off-worlders.
- This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- It is an independent member of the Julian Protectorate in the Urru Subsector of Amdukan Sector.
- This dangerous world is designated an Amber Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that make it dangerous to visitors.
- This world has colonies at Lisii and Semakee.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
This world is part of the namesake Gulkis Cluster.
Stellar Data[edit]
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
World Starport (St)[edit]
Gulkis has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Population (P)[edit]
Gulkis has a population of 4,000,000 sophonts (millions).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
World Demographics[edit]
- Human, 80%
- Vargr, 20% (mostly Irilitok Vargr)
Linguistic Topography[edit]
- Julian Anglic: A variant of Transform Anglic, and one of the official languages of the Julian Protectorate.
- Irilitok: The language family of the most populous Vargr phenotype and ethnic culture within the Julian Protectorate.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Gulkis possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
- Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
- Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
- Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
- FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Gulkis has a Balkanized Government. There is no central world government. The world has several governments competing for control of the world. These may be allies, cooperating, competitors, or at war with each other.
Julian Protectorate[edit]
This world's major nations are part of the Julian Protectorate, a confederation whose primary purpose is mutual protection of its members. Individual members conduct their own foreign policy and trade; mediation between member states and region-wide communications services are provided by the Protectorate, as is consistent interstellar law. The Protectorate also defines standards for equipment and protocols to ensure interoperability and coordination.
World Law (L)[edit]
Gulkis has a moderate law level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. Light assault weapons, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
