Grendel is a high-population, pre-rich water world with a billion or more sophonts in population size.
- This world has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water.
- The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
- It lacks adequate resources to expand its economy to a rich status.
- Its economy and population are rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to quickly rise barring outside forces.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Alderamin Subsector of Solomani Rim Sector in the Domain of Sol.
- This world contains an archaeological site with suspected high-tech remnants of the now-vanished Ancients precursor race.
Description (Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Mainworld Data[edit]
This is a water world with two small moons.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
Grendel contains an Ancients site, apparently an Ancient bio-engineering facility. Although physical traces of the Ancients are scant, the species on Grendel are "seeded" from other worlds, including Terra. A number of Grendel's higher animals show clear signs of genetic tampering from ~300k years prior.[2]

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Grendel (SR 0111) was originally known as Kishara (Anglic: Kishara).
- (Non-canon) It was renamed partly for the tale of Grendellukhaarkrai, a mythical island-city on pre-spaceflight Vland, that kept itself apart from the rest of the planet and fostered a unique hothouse artistic culture. It collapsed in under a decade after a trading ship inadvertently infected it with a virulent plague. The name "Grendel's Bane" was reinterpreted by epic poets in the third century Ziru Sirka as the wages of bringing progress and interconnection to isolated and ignorant places, and stoically accepting the cost. Discovery of the Ancients site on this world inspired speculation that the same thing may have happened here; upon confirmation during the early Rule of Man that the source worlds included Terra, this speculation grew popular enough to prompt the world's renaming.
