Goeouaelaets is a rich, oceanic water world.

  • It is covered with very deep oceans of water with less than 1% of its land above sea level.
  • The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 1% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
  • This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
  • The world has a rich and flourishing economy poised for continual growth and very attractive to immigrants.
  • This is a "low technology" world with technology competencies well below technology standards for Charted Space.
  • It is a member of the Vargr Extents in the Uthir Subsector of Angfutsag Sector.

System Data[edit]

The Goeouaelaets system has nine worlds, four of which are Gas Giants sized P through S, (smaller than Saturn to equal to Jupiter), occupying orbits 2-3 and 6-7 and thus surround the Habitable Zone making them visible as more than just wandering ‘stars’ when their orbits bring them closest to the mainworld.

Additionally, the system has captured a White Dwarf star in orbit 4. This “Little Glimmer” provides false dawns and extended dusk hours once per thirty, 25-hour days on Goeouaelaets. Tides occur quarterly as the small star passes close enough to have minor effect on is Oceanic world’s hydrosphere. Explorers report that jumpdrives must be further out than orbit 3 before safe enough from the F0 V solar primary to leave the system. The IceWorld in orbit 8 of the Outer System features a RadWorld satellite that surveying Vargr estimate is cooling very slowly and remains dangerously radioactive. Optical scope scans from orbit show an entire moon of exposed seas of magma and volcanoes erupting daily. There are no planetoid belts in the system, limiting prospects to planetary wildcatting operations.

Mainworld Data[edit]

This mainworld sits perfectly in the fifth orbit of a backwards solar system arrangement of its terrestrial planets versus its gas giants. Goeouaelaets (GO-ow-Eye-lights) is a mainworld that instead of moons has a medium-sized ice ring starting at extreme orbit.

History & Background / Dossier[edit]

Without trees and other oxygen-producing plants above sea-level, Goeouaelaets atmosphere is Standard and breathable due to the great forests of seaweed which release oxygen into the surface air as well as aerating the seas about them. So proliferate are these vast aquatic forests that Sargasso seas form a travel hazard for smaller ships that cannot produce enough momentum to push past the congestion. Often, cutter craft must range ahead of a fleet to slice and cut back a path through these regions. Wood is cut and dried on deck before sawed and planed for use in carpentry for the fleets. Fruits from these forests are netted at the surface in addition to various species of fish to supplement seaweed dietary needs. When a large serpent-shark is harpooned by mounted ballistae, an entire fleet is fed on its biomass for a month and is cause for celebration. Various alcoholic drinks are produced after aging properly in the darkened cargo holds in huge casks. Much of what is not consumed is packed with polar ice and made available to visiting space shuttles and low-tonnage starships capable of landing on the platforms or in water.

Goeouaelaets as a mainworld is over 99% hydrosphere. Prized among the surface watercraft fleets are the few sharp, jutting and stark basalt surface formations that local Vargr have used as terrestrial hardpoints for platforms made from construction steel and hydraulic cement. To these Vargr-made platforms are tied in series succession the super-flotillas of the world’s TL 3 inhabitants. A population of 20 million Suedzuk Vargr are punctuated with a very minority of Roth Thokken Vargr sub-species keeping their birth blindness and psionics quarantined from interbreeding with the Suedzuk majority. At least one Roth Thokken can be found per wooden sailing and wind turbine super-galleon. Each of these blind and psionic ‘seers’ aids as their disciplines allow in shipboard navigation, meteorology and crew discipline. Extras of this strange and very rare sub-species are given sanctuary aboard flagships of fleet Admirals, the elected rulers of Goeouaelaets. This Oceanic world’s dominant Government is a loose and very Vargr Representative Democracy. Elections are held at the rocky crags every four years (one career term) and acts as both elections for four hemispherical, Fleet Admirals but is a fortnight of legislation frenzy. New and struck-down laws herald the election or re-election of a fleet Admiral who then promotes his ‘cabinet’ of Vice and Rear Admirals who cascade to the selection of their member ship Captains.

Goeouaelaets is not without its comforts given its stormy seas. Without a satellite moon, there are no tides save for those imposed by “Little Glimmer” the captured White Dwarf star. Medicines are plentiful from the seas as well as entire hospital ships protected by their fleets and devoted to healing. Most Vargr locals are hearty and rugged due to the 1.4 surface gravity of this large planet.

World Starport[edit]

Goeouaelaets has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Technology Level[edit]

Goeouaelaets possesses a Technology Level of TL–3.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Printing press, the mechanical telegraph, and the first audio recordings.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Coal or other simple hydrocarbon fuels and early steam engines.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
  • Communications on Goeouaelaets comes as mirror flashes, flagging, long-distance signaling and seafloor telegraph lines connect the surface rock platforms. Occasionally lines are cut by bottom-dwelling sea monsters and must be repaired simultaneous to a ‘whaling’ expedition for the creature responsible for the disruption. With a standard atmosphere, hot air and helium balloons see use in fair weather as signaling platforms as well as military applications. In wartime, cannon are the weapons of choice, gunpowder being mined and dried from the shallows of submerged continental shelf deposits.
  • Due to the wide technology gap between Goeouaelaets seafarers and the interstellar community, most fleets are aloof to visitors from the stars. Handwriting is flowing in script and it can be difficult for off-worlders to make out the long-winded, connected written words. Additionally, the dodgy and often ambiguous Suedzuk language does not help the reader of local hardcopy documents. Often a Vargr Emissary-Arbitrator is sent to visiting spaceships at the cement platforms, to translate written to spoken word. This is rarely needed as at most one visit from space per week is expected on Goeouaelaets.

World Government[edit]

Goeouaelaets is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referendum, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.

  • Not everyone on this Size A planet supports the system of Government. One smaller faction wants the planet to adopt a permanent Charismatic Dictator per Vargr Charisma and set by sea battles, boarding actions and charismatic Infighting between Admirals seeking to rule the world. A third and smallest faction ‘peacefully’ lobbies the fleets for an oligarchy of Civil Service Bureaucracy Admirals with the maximum rank of Vice Admiral and holding seats to represent the large and small fleets. This faction is suspected of a Cultural Drift inherited from Suedzuk roots – Conspiracy to subvert the planetary government. Thus far, these Suedzuk have yet to garner enough support to change from the Representative Democracy perhaps due to low-tech communications of the people. Fleet spies inserted in undercover missions aboard opposing fleets are increasing.

World Military[edit]

Loner-Explorer Vargr have reported that Corsairs operate out of this ice-ring as it both serves to hide pirate vessels and as a source of fuel for ships that can mine, processes and refine the prismatic ice crystals. It is suspected that there is a Corsair Base burrowed into a large ice crystal somewhere in the ring.

  • By the very nature of the mercurial environment on Goeouaelaets and its people, personal weaponry is encouraged beyond natural Infighting weaponry except for personal, concealable arms. Even common table silverware is not found on this mainworld. The smallest melee weapon is no smaller than a gladius sword. Officers of these huge, wooden ships step from their cabins with no less than a brace of TL 3 flintlock pistols and their favorite saber. The typical Vargr Marine carries a TL 3 flintlock rifle akin to a Terran Brown Bess of the 19th century and a melee weapon of choice. Personal protection is slightly advanced for this TL 3 planet in that jack armor can feature a flotation life vest as an attachable option. Lifeboats, rafts, outrigger canoes, sailing catamarans and trimarans litter the spaces about the super-fleets as trade goods pass between the member ships.

World Economy[edit]

Interstellar trade has documented Trade Routes to Stone-Age world Gvaaeueksaa (Angfutsag 1238), Ghoeksaa (Angfutsag 1440) and Gvakarre (Angfutsag 1639) the interstellar anchor of the local arm of systems. Kuoedzi (Angfutsag 1438), a Fluid and Non-Industrial world, shares in this abundance as it is a frequent stopover for Jump-1 starships. Goeouaelaets offers Trade commodities in the lower technology bands of biochemicals, luxury consumables, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, spices, uncommon raw materials, illegal biochemicals, illegal drugs and illegal luxuries.

Empress Wave 1116

The galactic phenomenon so-called the Empress Wave crashes upon Goeouaelaets in 1114. Without prior warning and no means of protecting this world's Psions, many die over the course of eleven years as the aftershocks of the Wave play havoc with the opened minds of the Roth Thokken and Suedzuk psionicists.
