Formation is an icy, low-population world, with a population of less than 10,000 sophonts, warranting hazardous environment precautions.
- Its surface is ice-capped with nearly all of its water frozen.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Khukish Subsector of Corridor Sector in the Domain of Vland.
- This world has an Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships.
Description (Planetology)[edit]
This world is part of the Yopogirp Cluster.
Stellar Data[edit]
Formation has only been in the Habitable Zone of The Giant for about 1.5 million years. Before that, it was frozen solid for a billion years, and before that it was inside the Habitable Zone of The Maw for a few million years; before that it was, again, frozen solid.
The Giant is about 95 times as bright as Sol, and The Maw is almost inconspicuous against this -- except for the fact that The Maw is slowly stripping the outer layers from The Giant's atmosphere as a spectacular Accretion Disk some 800,000km across. Every 10 months, almost like clockwork, this disk heats up suddenly and shines, briefly, just as brightly as The Giant for a few days, afterwards dropping back to normal.
Calculations by Astronomers in the IISS show that The Giant will leave its Giant Star phase before the White Dwarf strips adequate mass to transform itself into a Neutron Star.
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Formation is a Meso World between 7,200km and 8,800km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.4G and 0.57G. The horizon will appear about 4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Formation has a pressure of less than 0.1 atmospheres which requires the use of a Vacc Suit. TL–8 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Formation has 05-15% of its surface covered by liquid water or ice. Wilderness refueling will be difficult. Water for the inhabitants needs to be imported and extensively recycled. These worlds are Hell Worlds or Poor Worlds depending on their atmosphere.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Imperial Landed Nobility[edit]
Formation, as a member world of the Third Imperium has a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world.
World Starport (Sp)[edit]
Formation has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- There is an associated Imperial Naval Base.
