Drya is a water world with 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water. The system has a population between 10,000 and 10 million, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Shallows Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. Drya, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world. During the Long Night this world was named Vliirpi.

Astrography and Planetology[edit]

Drya is a member of the Dagudashaag Main.

Drya is a large water world orbiting a pleasant yellow star.

Stellar Data[edit]

Drya has a solitary primary star.

Remarks

Mainworld Topography and Geography[edit]

Temperatures are uniformly low, averaging around -10°C. Although there is very little dry land, the world has large, semi-permanent icecaps. During the warmer summers these begin to break up, giving a constant danger of icebergs. The oceans average over three kilometers deep, although some areas are far shallower and others are much deeper. The weather on Drya tends to be violent, as there are no large landmasses to stop the high-speed winds or huge tsunami. The strong winds make air travel dangerous; the main forms of transport are boats and submersibles.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Complex life exists in the oceans.

Among the native animals are the Zaraduk, an apex megafaunal predator.

History and background[edit]

The main colonies on Drya are located around the Excellence and Temperance islands, close to the equator. Aquaculture and fishing are the principle sources of income. Drya provides many of the Ziamr (Dagudashaag 0719) system's foodstuffs.

The Glaniaw Space Station was built in -655 by the Ziadd mercantile Chaiklin Khiasq'arr, to orbit Drya as a navigation post. The station, though extremely primitive by modern standards was, for the most part, completely automated and only required a regular crew of five to run. A year later, the five personnel mysteriously vanished, an incident that remains unsolved centuries later.

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Drya has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

Drya has a population of 200,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

World Languages[edit]

World Government (G)[edit]

Drya is governed by a Participatory Democracy where eligible voters determine laws and policy. What determines an eligible voter varies. There may be smaller councils or regional bodies to draft the policies voted upon. Leadership of the government and all members of the bureaucracy are determined by the voting population.

World Law Level (L)[edit]

Drya has a low law level. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate. Portable energy weapons, body pistols, explosives, and poison gas are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Technology Level (TL)[edit]

Drya possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.
