The Crawni of Craw (Spinward Marches 1939) are a Minor Non-Human Race with a Non-humanoid appearance and technologically primitive sophonts.

Description (Specifications)

Roughly humanoid, Crawni are adapted to life in Craw's rugged outback, oxygen-poor atmosphere, and hot arid environment. They possess tough, leathery skin with little evaporation capacity to avoid losing water, and a large barrel chest with oversized lungs for more efficient oxygen extraction.

Crawni possess a short, thick tail for balance. Fingers and toes are equipped with rough knobby tips to aid in climbing. They have large eyes with two eyelids: one a nicitating membrane to shield from strong light, the other to keep out particles of sand. Hearing and smell are both better than a human's. They have a preference for working at night but are not strictly nocturnal.

History & Background (Dossier)

Crawni average TL–1 except those living near the colonist population. The natives have managed to domesticate a local omnivore, which is used as a beast of burden. The Crawni, being adapted to their planet's oxygen poor atmosphere, are used for heavy labor, in many cases being enslaved.
