Calores is a high-population, pre-rich world with a billion or more sophonts in population size.

  • It lacks adequate resources to expand its economy to a rich status.
  • Its economy and population are rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to quickly rise barring outside forces.
  • This a "forbidden" world designated as a Red Zone with an environment, laws, customs, life forms, or other conditions that make it extremely dangerous to visitors. Everyone is forbidden to travel here.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Ionia Subsector of Neworld Sector.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Calores is a hot, small-standard world with a standard atmosphere. Water covers approximately 30% of the surface.

Mainworld Geography & Topography[edit]

3 water seas are located in mountain-valley systems distributed with one in the northern and southern hemispheres, and a long thin sea straddling the equator for 2200 km.

World Starport[edit]

Calores has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which includes amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

Calores Highport is run entirely as a military outpost. Solomani law and traditions are entirely disregarded.

Travellers operating within the purview of the Scouts carrying no trade goods can expect to be treated roughly, interrogated repeatedly, refueled, and told not to return without legitimate business.

Trade ships are treated with suspicion, but if all trade goods are documented and displayed openly, the military authorities can be expected to be at least civil. The military on the high port have the right of first refusal on all inbound trade. If trade goods remain, the captain is generally allowed to sell the remainder en masse to official brokers on station. The captain can also protest the (typically) low-ball prices offered by the brokers, and demand to do business planet-side. The current political powers that be apparently support this option, and it appears to be often granted.

There is a Calores Downport located on the Southern hemisphere (also class C) with better-than-average accommodations for business dealings. While comfortable, it is immediately evident that the downport is completely controlled by local law enforcement. Remaining on ship as much as possible is recommended for your own safety. Advocates can be hired from the arrival terminals for consultations and should be. That said, there is no assumption of client-lawyer privilege here; be guarded in your dealings. It is recommended that all public discussions be business oriented, and avoid any discussion of local politics.

World Technology Level[edit]

Calores possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World Government[edit]

Calores is governed by a Charismatic Dictatorship. Charismatic governments justify their ability to rule by simply asserting their right to rule. Charismatic dictatorships are young governments, coming as a recent change and rely on the leader(s) to supply head of government.

World Law Level[edit]

Calores has an extreme law level which covers every area of interaction. Laws are complex, detailed, and difficult to understand. Every interaction with the government requires an Advocate. Law enforcement is omnipresent and strict. Legal proceeding can take months to years to resolve and may involve dozens of people. A world with this law level may be an Amber Zone or a Red Zone. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (with no exception for private residences; visiting starships are only protected so long as they stay within designated starports and approach corridors). Civilian movement is rigidly controlled. On worlds with this degree of law, it is difficult to distinguish the police from the military. On others, there is no difference.

Urbanization[edit]

Tech-9 and tech-8 cities follow in the river systems in the valleys surrounding the planetary seas.

Abandoned cities with evidence of mid-sized (200 - 300kt) nuclear detonations are prevalent in the northern mountain-valley region, though there are clearly operative urban areas remaining in that region.
