Big Sea is a nonindustrial water world, which has 90% or more of its surface covered in an ocean of water.
- The inhabitants of this world live on the roughly 10% of exposed land mass, in underwater colonies, on city ships, or similar arrangements.
- As a nonindustrial world, it requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. The need to import most manufactured and high technology goods drives the price of these goods up in the open market.
- It is a member of the Hive Federation in the Nanoonil Subsector of Langere Sector.

History & Background / Dossier[edit]
By Hive Federation standards, the inhabitants of this world are rather xenophobic.
World Starport[edit]
Big Sea has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
- A small, unobtrusive security force is drawn from the most suitable members of the local militia and stiffened with navy regulars.
- Ships are subject to mandatory anti-larval fumigation before leaving, to kill any infant Hivers that might have gotten aboard. Hivers are distressed by the notion that a larva might find itself achieving sapience in an environment absent adult Hivers and suitable nests.
World Population (P)[edit]
Big Sea has a population of 20,000 sophonts (tens of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
World Languages[edit]
- Hiver Sign Language
- Gurvin
- Non-Hiver locals will typically speak Gurvin augmented with a pidgin of local languages and Ithkluri, to provide ambiguity and metaphor lacking from the standard Gurvin vocabulary.
World Technology Level[edit]
Big Sea possesses a Technology Level of TL–8.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics, improved telephones, and satellite communication and data networks.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Improved geothermal and improved batteries.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Advanced automobiles.
- Water: Triphibians and early artificial gills.
- Air: Improved helicopters and hypersonic jets.
- Space: Space shuttles, early space stations, and improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
World Government[edit]
Big Sea has no central government or substantial government apparatus; an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.
