The Augrin of Nilabos (Matzen 1207) are a Minor Non-Human Race with a humanoid appearance

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The Augrin are not originally from Nilabos and their homeworld at this point is unknown. It is believed that at some point in their history they were transplanted here but there are no known records of this event. They are taller than humans and much more bulky due to their chitinous exoskeleton. As a result they are also typically 4 - 5 times heavier than the typical human. At this stage in their own development the Augrin have no space flight capability of their own and have only achieved TL:3 at this point in their development.

Physiology[edit]

  • The Augrin stand at approximatey 2.4-2.7m tall on average.
  • They have a bipedal typically humanoid body. Unlike a human though their senses are not located in their head but actually elsewhere on their body that are almost impossible to see unless the observer knows exactly where to look. This is due to the extensive exoskeleton that covers their body.
  • Their exoskeletons have the appearance of polished dark grey metal and as such given their head only appears to contain a mouth full of sharp teeth can make them appear quite intimidating.
  • The Augrin dont have hands but rather "gripper" like appendanges and their legs end in elongated feet that can curl and grip rough surfaces as they walk.

Senses[edit]

  • Vision (V-12-CRG) - The Augrin have vision that is weaker than the average human. They are able to perceive a different wavelength of light than a human but their vision does overlap with human norms.
  • Hearing (H-20-5473) - In comparison to humans an Augrin ability to detect sound is very different. Their natural sense of hearing has a wider range and can also hear down into the infrasonic range. When an Augrin speaks its also at a lower pitch than a human and indeed some of their verbalisations are impossible for humans to hear.
  • Smell (S-18-1) - Augrin have an excellent sense of smell. This developed as one of their abilities that enabled them to hunt and ultimately hijack their prey.
  • Touch (T-18-3) - The Augrin are incredibly sensitive to touch. Their entire exoskeleton has touch receptors allowing them to establish many details from simply touching over and above that of human norms.
  • Awareness (A-24-4) - Augrin exoskeleton picks up electrical and magnetic fields in the surrounding area. This allows them a natural ability to create a synthetic 3d image in their brains that is "tracking" everything around them.

Characteristics[edit]

A baseline Scerrun has the following characteristic ranges:

  • Strength 4D
  • Agility 2D
  • Stamina 2D
  • Intelligence 2D
  • Instinct 1D
  • Social 2D

Movement[edit]

The Augrin walk at an average pace equivalent to humans. They can also run at equivalent speeds, however their significant bulk means they tend to be short bursts of running with no long distances.

Augrin are unable to swim without devices to support them. There natural weight means they simply sink when entering the water.

Reproduction[edit]

  • The Augrin are a dual species and like humans have both male and females. The act of reproduction is akin to human norms for the purpose of this text.
  • A female typically gives birth to one live infant with each pregnancy and can have many pregnancies in her life time. It is usual though for the female to only have one child during her life. It is rare but twins can also be born.
  • Gestation period for an Augrin is 17 months.
  • The young Augrin stay with their parent until they reach adulthood around 18 years of age. It is not uncommon however for them to stay close to thier parent for a few years beyond their 18th year.

Government[edit]

  • The Augrin govern themselves via several councils that come together to form, under standard categorisation an "Impersonal Bureaucract". Members of other sophont races who interact with the Augrin tend to do so through these councils.
  • The councils do seem to operate very efficiently with the needs of the many always outwaying the needs of the few.
  • The role of councillor carries some level of prestige amongst the Augrim and they are usually seen as key members of society.
