The star Altair (otherwise known as Alpha Aquilae) is a bluish-white spectral classification A7 Delta Scuti type variable main sequence star.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
Altair has a rapid rotation rate, causing its spherical shape to be distorted into an oblate spheroid with an equatorial diameter 25% greater than its polar diameter, and a dimmer luminosity at the equator as compared to the poles due to the difference in gravity and temperature.
- The primary star Altair A has two faint companion stars, Altair C, and Altair D. A visual "B-companion" from the perspective of the Terran night sky, catalogued as BD+08 4232 is not physically close to Altair A but merely appears close to it in Terra's night sky.
- The inner edge of Altair's habitable zone is located at ~2.177AU, while the outer edge lies at ~4.475AU. The orbit of a Terra-norm world within the system would be centered at ~3.3AU with an orbital period of about 4.7 years.
- The Altair star system lies approximately 5.1pc from Terra, and is located in a Coreward/Corespinward direction from Terra at bearing 047.7o Galactic Longitude and -08.91o South Galactic Latitude.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Altair is the primary star of the beltworld Altair/Dingir (Solomani Rim 1522).
