The star Vega (otherwise known as Alpha Lyrae) is a blue-white main sequence star of spectral type A0 V.
- This star is known as Duusirka in the Vilani language.
- This star system is known as Gwathui in the Vegan language.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
Though only twice as massive as Sol, Vega burns at 50 times the power.
- If viewed along the plane of its equator, Vega would look about 20% fainter than at the poles as the star rotates at 93% of the speed that would cause it to start breaking up from centrifugal effects (with a rotation period of about 12.5 hours).
- Vega is the 5th brightest star as seen from Terra.
- Vega is not significantly large nor massive nor bright (as far as the galactic population is concerned). Vega is bright relative to most of the stars in Charted Space.
Vega has a circumstellar debris disk of dust which is analogous to the Kuiper belt of the Sol System.
- The disk has an inner boundary of ~70-100AU, the entire disk extending out to 330AU.
- There is evidence for an inner dust band around Vega originating within 8AU of the star, which may itself be evidence of intense bombardment of comets or meteors and/or the existence of a planetary system.
The Vega star system is approximately 7.7pc from Terra, and is located in a Coreward/Corespinward direction from Terra at bearing 067.4o Galactic Longitude and +19.2o North Galactic Latitude.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Vega is the primary star of the beltworld Gwathui/Vega (Solomani Rim 1720).
