Description (Specifications)

The Jonson-Bowes Federation is an interstellar state composed of 3 systems beyond the Rimward borders of the Solomani Confederation, in the Jonson Subsector of Hadji Sector. While the Federation was declared in 1109, its claim to legitimacy derives from the Bowes Hegemony, which stretches back to the 600s.

One of its worlds is Xtce, a place with a sordid, but no longer deserved, reputation.

The Federation has no excess ship building capability and must build ships slowly. They have no Naval Bases and no Scout Bases in 1109, but have developed a Navy base at Dempsey by 1120.

History & Background

The Jonson-Bowes Federation claims to be the rightful successor to the Bowes Hegemony, which controlled the Menzel Cluster and a number of nearby systems off and on between 630 and 1109 (Imperial).

In 1043 (Imperial), during a period of resurgence of the Bowes Hegemony, additional settlement was undertaken in the Xeni and Dempsey systems, and military efforts to subjugate Ackerman were increased. This would ultimately shatter the increasingly fragile Hegemony, causing Ravna Jonson of Menzel to uproot his House and allies in 1103 and move to the more secure world of Dempsey. While the Menzel worlds continued to expend themselves in internecine warfare, Jonson evaluated his odds and conducted a lightning raid on the aristocratic playground at Xeni, known as the XTCE Resort. He succeeded in wiping out a significant number of scions of the other Houses of the Hegemony, hastening its end.

Under Jonson's continued leadership, Dempsey would become the effective capital of the region as the old Hegemony fell into chaotic squabbling. The newly named Jonson-Bowes Federation began sending resources to the Xeni system to keep it from being exploitable by the other worlds, and also made peace with and subsequently allied with the resistance at Ackerman.

Government & Politics

By 1120 the Jonson-Bowes Federation is a still loose alliance of three systems with a total population of some 86 million, most of whom are residents of Ackerman.

They have equipment from TL–9 to TL–11.

Military & Intelligence

The military of the Jonson-Bowes Federation remains small and fairly well-trained, even a generation after the warfare at Ackerman was resolved. The Navy consists mostly of ships "liberated" from the former Bowes Hegemony, though Dempsey is exploring the costs and difficulties of building new.

The intelligence assets of the Federation are largely aimed at keeping an eye on the worlds of the former Bowes Hegemony.
