Scion Sentry model Hovercraft (TECH LEVEL 8)

The Protectorate of Leset maintains an old reserve unit. These battalions deploy x36 of these vehicles. Each line company is organized into three platoons of three vehicles and 45 crew and troopers, and a headquarters section with 30 personnel and two more vehicles for the CO and the XO. Designed and manufactured on Leset (world) at TL–9. This basic version was envisioned to serve as the basic template for a number of variant Hovercraft. In practice other designed were pressed into service to support and maintain these vehicles. These air cushion vehicles, rely on ground effects from vectored thrust to move at NOE but pay double movement for broken ground, on gentle slopes and sparse undergrowth. They may not climb steep slope gradients, enter boulder fields nor dense undergrowth. Their current armor precludes amphibious operations. They are lightly armored to resist fire from up to a HMG. They are not equipped to cope with NBC/CBR threats. They can not maneuver in the absence of an atmosphere. They carry three crew, a driver, gunner and commander. They can carry a full squad of 12 dismountable infantry who exit through a rear ramp. The vehicle provides the squad with dedicated point defense and organic light indirect firepower. These features do contribute to its higher unit cost. They lack any avionics and very fast for a ground vehicle. They require wide open spaces to fully exploit their top speed, obstacle and collision avoidance is largely a matter of luck or faith. The theory was that their speed would allow them to avoid danger and therefore they didn't need to carry as much armor.

Vehicle Dimensions:

  • Height: 1m (+1m turret). Width: 4 m. Length: 10 m.
  • Total usable volume: 45 m3
  • Total mass loaded: 50 metric tons.
  • Production Cost: Cr. 1,790,099.779
  • Movement: Weapons OFF 410kph/341cm; Weapons ON 209.75kph/174cm.

  • 18-megawatt fusion power plant consumes 27 liters of fuel/ hour
  • Fuel capacity 494.5 liters, enough for 18.3 hours.
  • Power to weight ratio is 360 weapons OFF and 159.75 weapons ON.

Weapons:

There is a fully stabilized 5m3 turret (1m tall, 2m wide, 2.5m long) on the chassis deck. A versatile 10.0125-Megawatt input, hyper velocity 5.5cm mass driver (Rail Gun) fitted with TL 9 point defense fire control, and TL 9 indirect fire control and is mounted in the turret mount on the chassis deck. It rolls 4d6 versus enemy fire missions.

  • The vehicle requires 5.5 turns to set up for indirect fire missions. The vehicle can not move while engaged in indirect fire missions. It must communicate with an allied fire direction center in the higher echelons to conduct fire missions. The vehicle has a ROF 40 and rounds mass 2.5kg (5kg RAP). It carries enough ammo for 20 fire missions (10 w/RAP).
  • It has +0 signature when it fires and can engage 4 targets with direct fire.
  • Onboard ammunition storage: 800 rounds. A full load of KEAP is included in the purchase price. Other types of ammunition are sold separately.

TAC Missiles

There are two 15.273125kg capacity launch rails affixed to the side of the turret on the chassis deck. They use either a 6kg 20cm HEAP 52 warhead or a 0.9kg 8.5cm HEAP 40 warhead. The vehicle is sold with a pair of the teleguided missiles included. Most of the models suffer from short engagement range. No reloads are typically carried. A single crew member can reload these missiles on the outside of the vehicle.
