A'Prur is a language that is primarily used by the Tezcat race

  • It is a [category] language.

Description (Specifications)

The dominant language group of the Tezcat race, from Aum-Rhar. A’Prur was also the name of the nation in which the language was first used, on Aum-Rhar’s eastern island continent. The people of A’Prur were technologically inclined, energetic, and armed with a burning religious faith and a powerful zeal to bring civilization to the barbarians. They conquered the other nations of their world before seeking to expand Tezcat influence in space.

A’Prur speech was a mix of hissing sibilants and deep, low, throaty sounds.

In Use

A’Prur was difficult to learn, having a somewhat disorderly structure (like English).

Tezcat interaction included a substantial non-verbal body language component. In particular, skin colour changes, tail posture, and ear movements served as an unconscious means of signaling the emotional states of their owners.

Naming

Tezcat names were fanciful and consisted of a string of soft words. Names were selected by the child’s parents, and were based on parental hopes for that child. Mothers selected the names of sons, and fathers of daughters. A name in the dominant Tezcat culture usually included the word Sume (son) or Mra (daughter) -- this was how to tell a male or female name apart. Because of Tezcat hostility, many names were warlike in nature. An example of a Tezcat name was Keshyathree Vre Sume Nathra I’Lurr, which would translate into “Twelfth Darkness that Stalks the Rift, Son of Dancing Moonlight, Eater of the Soulless”.

Keshyathree (“Twelfth” combined with reference to a concept of stalking darkness), Vre (“dancing moonlight”), Sume (“son”), Nathra (“eater”), I’Lurr (“souless”)
