Description / Specifications
A generic class of civilian vessel, the Provincial Freighter is a commercial transport typically encountered operating within clusters of stars within the Distant Fringe region. It is classified as a Bulk Cargo Carrier and is constructed as a conventional design.
- The vessel is a TL 11 design.
- Vessels of this type are employed in the Recovery Trade.
Hull
The Provincial Freighter is constructed using a 3500 dTon hull built in a generally cone-shaped configuration. The hull is fully streamlined: the ship is equipped with fuel scoops.
- Individual sections of the ship are divided by bulkhead walls.
- The hull includes internal grav plates and inertial compensators.
Engineering
The vessel mounts a DeVoss-type jump-2 drive, a maneuver-2 drive, and a power plant 2, giving performance of jump-2 and 2G acceleration. There is fuel tankage of 1200 dTons, sufficient for one jump-2 and giving the power plant four weeks duration. 430 dTons of fuel is commercially available. The vessel is fitted with a purification plant.
- The jump drive is fitted with a jump governor.
Main Section
Adjacent to the bridge is a computer model/2: the vessel carries an additional backup computer model/2. The vessel has a secure locker with a capacity of 3 dTons. There are 100 staterooms and 100 low berths. Single occupancy accommodations are provided for all the crew: 57 staterooms are available to paying passengers. Cargo capacity amounts to 2200 dTons.
- The vessel is fitted with communications equipment and a sensor suite.
Crew
The Provincial Freighter requires 43 crew: 9x command, 6x engineering, 7x gunnery, and 12x service, of which two serve as flight crew for the Ship’s Boats when required. In addition there are 8x passenger stewards and a medic.
Weapons
The ship is fitted with 32 turrets. These are grouped into:
- two sandcaster batteries, each consisting of 10 linked triple turrets
- two missile batteries, each consisting of 6 linked triple turrets
There are 3 unused hardpoints and 3 tons of internal space is set aside for fire control.
Hangers / Subcraft
Internal commercial hanger space amounts to 1100 dTons.
The ship carries two 40 dTon Ship’s Boats, housed within the commercial hangers.
Cost
The basic cost of the vessel, complete with its subcraft, is MCr2043.918. All of the craft are standard designs and all qualify for a 20% discount, which reduces the total price to MCr1635.135.
History / Background
The design is representative and a large number of variants exist, particularly with regard to the carried subcraft, allotted weapons systems, onboard electronics, and the fit out of internal spaces.
