Description / Specifications
The Heavy Fighter is an inexpensive, reliable vessel designed to engage enemy units from close range. Similar designs have been in use from the time the Distant Fringe was first settled.
Hull
The Heavy Fighter is constructed using a 20-dTon hull built in a generally wedge-shaped configuration. The hull is fully streamlined.
Engineering
The vessel mounts a maneuver-6 drive and a power plant G, giving performance of 6G acceleration. There is fuel tankage of 3 dTons, giving the power plant almost 4 weeks duration.
Main Section
The vessel is equipped with a computer model/2 and two acceleration couches.
- The Heavy Fighter requires 1 crew: a pilot. It also includes an additional position for a weapons/electronics specialist.
Weapons
The ship has one hardpoint mounting two beam lasers and a missile launcher.
Subcraft
None.
Cost
The basic cost of the vessel is MCr44.700. The craft is a standard design and qualifies for a 20% discount, which reduces the total price to MCr35.760.
History
An ubiquitous design used throughout the Distant Fringe, the Heavy Fighter is durable and reliable. The design is representative and a large number of variants exist, particularly with regard to the allotted weapons systems and onboard electronics.
