Description / Specifications
The Bulk Carrier is a large commercial transport commonly encountered along Star Lanes within the Distant Fringe. It is classified as a Bulk Cargo Carrier and is constructed as a conventional design vessel.
Hull
The Bulk Carrier is constructed using a 35000 dTon hull built in a close structure configuration. The hull is partially streamlined to allow gas giant refuelling: it is equipped with fuel scoops.
Engineering
The vessel mounts a DeVoss-type jump-2 drive, a maneuver-1 drive, and a power plant 2, giving performance of jump-2 and 1G acceleration. There is fuel tankage of 7700 dTons, sufficient for one jump-2 and giving the power plant four weeks duration. The vessel is fitted with a purification plant.
Main
Adjacent to the bridge is a computer model/4: the vessel carries an additional backup computer model/4. There are 120 staterooms and 200 low berths, primarily used to transport livestock. Double occupancy accommodations are required for all except the command crew. 13 staterooms are available to paying passengers. Cargo capacity amounts to 16000 dTons.
- The Bulk Carrier requires 195 crew: 18x command, 39x engineering, 30x gunnery, and 105x service, of which 27 double up as flight crew for the subcraft as required. In addition, the vessel carries 2x passenger stewards and a medic.
Weapons
The ship has 4 missile bays and 180 turrets, grouped into ten batteries of 10 triple sandcasters and eight batteries of 10 triple beam lasers. There are 130 unused hardpoints but no additional space is set aside for fire control.
Subcraft
The ship carries two 1200 dTon Heavy Landers and a 40 dTon Ship’s Boat, each housed in a dedicated hanger.
Cost
The vessel, complete with all of its subcraft, costs MCr13593.474: all of the ships are standard designs and all qualify for a 20% discount, which reduces the total price to MCr10874.78.
