Vilis/Vilis (Spinward Marches 1119) is a heavily industrialized planet, possessing good technology. Exports include warships – Vilis builds patrol cruisers under Imperial contract and a larger class of frontier destroyer for the open market – weaponry and high-technology goods. Society is quite heavily militarized, though the military itself is plagued with inefficiency. Public opinion is still very much in favor of retaining ownership of the Garda-Vilis "colony."

Vilis was originally settled by Sword Worlders from Morglay (Gungnir), who named it Svavasorm.

Vilis became a client state of the Imperium in 470 and a full member in 552.
