Background
Caliphate class scouts are based upon a design first developed by the Caliphate of Estalia on Whitman (Holowon 0423 A2737D3-A). They are a spherical hulled vessel for short-range patrols in the Caliphate. These starships have enough fuel for two jumps without refueling. Scorned as poorly armed by some safety conscious scouts, they are nonetheless sturdy workhorses of the Caliphate fleet. They are armed with four single pulse laser turrets and are equipped with an auxiliary control with a back up model 4 fib computer, in case the main bridge is destroyed. There are currently 74 of these scouts in service.
The partially streamlined spherical configuration is armored and is capable of gas giant refueling. The hull is a strange combination of Lead, Iron, and Cobalt and it is fitted with fuel scoops and a purification refinery. They carry a streamlined 20 ton launch. There is a crew of eight, which include: pilot, navigator, 3 engineers, gunner, medic and flight crew.
