History & Background (Dossier)

Situated on a dead-end cluster of worlds on the so-called Bridge of Destiny, non-aligned Io (Knoellighz 2334) D5565BF-4 Ag Ga Lt Ni is Amber Zone interdicted by its neighbors in light of its strict Dictatorship and rigid Law making trade almost a ritualized religion when met by mercantile starships from off-world. Io is found in the Raelas subsector of Knoellighz Sector. It has one planetoid belt and one Gas Giant where ships not wishing to make planetfall choose instead to refuel in the wilds by skimming for fuel.

  • With an Industrial Age Tech Level, the planet cannot stop visitors from outer space, but do try to limit such landings to a prepared landing field across from internal combustion biplanes.
  • The local D-rated Downport requires a series of painful, injected inoculations to prevent a furious rabies style disease from leaving the planet. Characters suffer 1D6 damage to Endurance over a course of a week from the injections. The alternative is madness and then a slow death if not put down by local law enforcement.
  • Though the world of Io boasts a Progressive culture that is vibrant and expanding from opening its doors to off-world traders, economists calculate on simple electronic devices that tariffs might be in order to curtail the fortunes being made by Agricultural tycoons in such trades. Science is barely able to keep up with its own advances from theory to application.
  • Not all is well and developing however as a cult of nihilistic Vargr featuring deadly assassins are trying to terrorize the government leaders and their families or packs. Wanting the progressive breakthroughs to halt and maintain a status quo of society, the planetary government has a war on terror to contend with in addition to visitors from outer space. Hence, there is no extraterritorialty at the airfield barely passing for a landing zone of monthly starships.
  • Trade starships arrive in majority from Ghandorr (Knoellitz 2033) and Io-published, hardcopy warning pamphlets warn of the necessary inoculations and current terror threat level.
