History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Subsidized by Thaeghz Hvaek Engnigharr (tr: Pack Pact to Success), T.H.E. Corp or [THE] in market systems nets; Rourruengghog (Knoellighz 2807) C8B6100-A Fl Lo Ni rests comfortably numb and near the center of Ourdzoeg subsector. The corporation intended the mainworld to be a refuel stopover point for Jump-2 starships arriving from the Spinward Jump-1 main. Once the importance of the central route through this part of the subsector between mains of two Charismatic Greats was seen as needed, the Democracy of Greats installed a Naval Base here at just inside 100 Diameters allowing quick arrivals and departures of military vessels. Also present is the secret Corsair Base for the only Corsair Band to sign with Thaeghz Hvaek Engnigharr as a corporate Declaration of Powers or Letter of Marque under the Sector-wide guidelines of Privateering called the Hunters' Bawn.

With plenty of C Downport hangar space, there are no accommodations and no sights to see at the rainy landing fields. Navigational beacons and landing lights and barely a tower mark the terminal.

Hindered by a Population of 40 Vargr, the visitors can swell that number by more than twice and keep the Downport staff very busy in the hangars and the tavern and restaurant. The rest of the tasks are taken up by pre-programmed robots that harvest fluids from the nearby sea.

Though the system has two Gas Giants, Rourruengghog Downport has refueling services processed from the harvested seas and even the corrosive atmosphere in a slow-going attempt to remove the harmful contents and output the safer gases. It is unlikely, if ever, to complete this bare-bones terraforming attempt of the Vargr.

At TL–10, the programmed robots are armed and given clearance to defend themselves against local fauna as they harvest fluids for the corporations automated processing plants. The raw and differentiated chemicals are then for sale through the planetary computer kiosk just outside the tavern. Transactions are strictly credits and carry, so pilots are warned to bring their own tanks to fill.

Female Vargr run the bar and grill and dress to draw in customers. Males are relegated to working the terminal and hangars to clean off arriving starships before the torrential downpour corrodes the outer hulls. A wide variety of libations and concoctions are on the menu as well as hand-prepared meals sure to require digestion supplements.

With such a low population comes the lack of Government on Rourruengghog as well as zero Law. Locals arm themselves or are excellent bar brawlers, Infighting being their favored engagement weapon. Visitors are given recorded beacon reminders to be on their best behavior.

Gravity on Rourruengghog is Terra standard and is about the only welcoming and easily-missed detail for visitors arriving at the Downport. Most tavern and restaurant patrons come from the polity Naval Base or the hidden Corsair (Privateer) Base or are Loner belters from nearby Enagoksghaegvae (Knoellighz 2907). The two groups share drinks and tales of missions to one-up each other.

There is plenty of spare parts, gear, robots and other components sold locally. However starship crews will have to install purchases themselves as the local robots cannot be programmed for every class of starship repair.

The Downport is so sleepy and forgotten that most vessels refuel their starships in the wild of the twin Gas Giants and quickly move on. Chemicals merchants might stop for a quick refreshment as their tanks are filled with speculative raw fluids for refinement at Enagoksghaegvae. With no planetoid belts in Rourruengghog, belters have little draw to this backwater system.
