Description (Planetology)
Stellar Data
History & Background (Dossier)
A non-industrial world in the eponymous Ameros Subsector of the Core Sector.
In 1051, the famous financial/banking megacorporation Hortalez et Cie underwrote one of the most ambitious terraforming projects to date in the Imperium. Ameros was to be a showcase world for an accelerated process of habitable transformation.
The goal of the pilot project is to completely transform Ameros from a barren airless rock into a world with a thin atmosphere and a 10% hydrosphere in less than 100 years. If successful, the project will pave the way for comfortable colonization of otherwise inhospitable moons and planets.
As of 1105, the progress on Ameros so far has proved disappointing: its atmosphere is only up to a trace level from its original vacuum state and its hydrosphere has been increased to a mere 2%, all of which is currently in the form of ice. Hortalez et Cie has expressed some concern over the discouraging progress; the research team on the world has assured the banking firm that the project is actually closer to being on track than it appears. They contend that the last 25% of a terraforming period is when the most dramatic results appear.
World Starport (St)
Ameros has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
Linguistic Topography
The most commonly heard languages are:
- Core Anglic, one of the principal dialects of one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
- Vilani, one of the two official languages of the Imperium.
