The Hawklings of Gar (known locally as Ghostring) are a primitive non-starfaring society of Avianoid humanoids.

Physiology & Environment

Hawklings are 1.4 meters tall, with a creamy fur covering the head and thorax. Their large, protruding eyes have nictitating membranes, and they have thick, yellow tendrils at the lower corners of their mouths. These are used to hold food, and to manipulate close objects.

The Hawklings descend from carnivores, with sharp teeth, and their long arms end with three digit hands, including an opposing digit; otherwise they are very humanoid. Hawklings have also a developed a system of agriculture and raise grain foodstuffs as a major component of their modern diet.

Reproduction

Hawklings are sexually dimorphic with the females having a slightly smaller stature than the males. They reproduce by giving birth to live young. The young are cared for by their parents in small family groups until the children are grown, usually about 12 to 15 standard years. The lifespan is about 50 standard years.

History & Background (Dossier)

Hawkling society was transformed in the 10th Century Imperial when adventurers from the Third Imperium became stranded on Ghostring after a starship break-down. Those adventurers informed the Hawklings about galactic culture and technologies beyond the Hawkling imagination.

Culture & Society

The Hawklings are eager hunters and maintain gaming species through conservation techniques. The Hawkling have also adapted to farming, with a primary crop of Peel, a wheat-analog which provides most of the nutrients required for their growing population.

Calendar & Timekeeping

Very little is known about how the Hawkling form a calendar or mark the passing of time although it is assumed that the Hawkling calendar is based upon the planetary rotation of their homeworld of Ghostring.

Technology & Trade

Hawkling technology is relatively primitive (TL–1 to TL–3) although some leading Hawkling thinkers are on the cusp of discovering many TL–4 technologies.

Hawklings are largely ignorant of galactic culture and only trade internally, amongst one another, as a result.
