Revision as of 07:54, 6 September 2020

Welcome to the Traveller Wiki. We all look forward to working with you for expanding the Traveller wiki. Tjoneslo (talk) 17:27, 19 August 2020 (EDT)

Is "Sugaar" a real person or a corporation? BackworldTraveller (talk) 00:42, 20 August 2020 (EDT)

Hi! Thank you. I am Felipe, from Sugaar Editorial. Sugaar is a user we have created for contributions from the editorial team. Is it better than each person uses their own user even if they have little activity? --Felipe (talk) 03:05, 20 August 2020 (EDT)

¡Hola! No problem. Just wasn't sure if this was a person or a group. You might want to explain on the "User Page". BackworldTraveller (talk) 04:55, 20 August 2020 (EDT)
Actually you may wish to start by getting the company's list of traveller publications added to the Wiki's Ludography and setting up a page for the company itself. BackworldTraveller (talk) 08:27, 20 August 2020 (EDT)

Corrected a couple of spelling mistakes and listed your sub-page(s) on the main page so you don't lose it - hope you don't mind. BackworldTraveller (talk) 08:05, 3 September 2020 (EDT)

Thank you BackworldTraveller, even getting used to the tool. --Sugaar (talk) 08:11, 3 September 2020 (EDT)--
In User:Sugaar/traducción#Siguientes páginas i've put in an alternate reference to the same page using the internal link method...FYI. You may wish to remove it again. BackworldTraveller (talk) 08:19, 3 September 2020 (EDT)
Yes, thanks. We want to show our collaborators different formats. Soon we will correct all the links on the page.--Sugaar (talk) 08:41, 3 September 2020 (EDT)

I did a search and noted that nothing is currently tagged as being in Spanish (español) - not even these pages or User:Sugaar/traducción‎‎! BackworldTraveller (talk) 08:17, 3 September 2020 (EDT)

Right now we are preparing the work and studying the translation reference page (1). As soon as we have it more assimilated we will begin to work with articles.
One thing you might want to do is to ensure existing users know that pages include/should include translation tags otherwise you may find that they mysteriously get removed or copied as part of a standard cut and paste when new stuff is created. User:Tjoneslo may be able to help with suggestions on how that communication can be accomplished.BackworldTraveller (talk) 11:29, 3 September 2020 (EDT)

Articles for Review

You sent me the following list of articles via email. I'm copying the list here so I can mark the articles as reviewed and let you, and your team, know when you can start the translations.

- Tjoneslo (talk) 21:07, 4 September 2020 (EDT)
Thanks. I have added Imperial_Nobility to the list.
Great, will continue to review and update the articles on your list. Tjoneslo (talk) 10:29, 5 September 2020 (EDT)

Publications

Do you have images of the front-pages of your traveller publications that you could up-load onto the Wiki so we can add them to the list of known publications? BackworldTraveller (talk) 04:51, 5 September 2020 (EDT)

Sure. How can I upload them? --Sugaar (talk) 12:12, 5 September 2020 (EDT)
There should be an "Upload file" option visible in the bar to the left. If it isn't it will be because (a) you aren't logged in and/or (b) because you have not been granted upload rights. BackworldTraveller (talk) 12:41, 5 September 2020 (EDT)
I don't see it, so I will have no rights.--Sugaar (talk) 13:02, 5 September 2020 (EDT)
In order to get the Upload rights you need to have a confirmed email address. On your Preferences page toward the bottom, there will be an option to set an email address (if you haven't already), and button to re-send the confirmation email. Pressing the button the system will send you an email to the address listed. In the email is a link, which may be wrong (it needs to start with https:// and not http://). Once you get the correct link, it will note your email address as confirmed. This will allow you to upload images and bypass the captchas. Tjoneslo (talk) 13:35, 5 September 2020 (EDT)

Also, The Versions of Traveller page could probably do with a one-line note about your company's translation efforts for the Mongoose products.BackworldTraveller (talk) 12:45, 5 September 2020 (EDT)

Side effect

Note: If a page is marked for translation, and another edit occurs to the base page, the marked version is displayed in English NOT the latest version. (This may return to normal after translation occcurs...don't know) BackworldTraveller (talk) 12:56, 5 September 2020 (EDT)

If a page has changes, the message to translate it changes, advising that it must be marked again for translation.--Sugaar (talk) 13:02, 5 September 2020 (EDT)

Notes on "Versiones de Traveller" Translation

  • Where a link is translated the link breaks because the page name breaks. e.g. Third Imperium changed to Tercer Imperio.
Solutions?
  1. Use Tercer Imperio as the link form and rely on the system to take you to the right language - which means touching every link
  2. Use Tercer Imperio as the link form - which means touching every link
  3. Use Tercer Imperio as the link and set up a redirect of the form "#REDIRECT Third Imperium" or "#REDIRECT Third Imperium/es"
  4. ???
  • "Category:" entries get translated to "Categoria:". This breaks the categorisation process and some of the template processing that relies on the magic word "Category:".
Solutions?
  1. Don't translate categories
  2. ???
  • "Template:" entries get translated and thus aren't found. e.g. Advanced was translated to Avanzado
Solutions?
  1. Don't translate template names
Some investigation on template translation would be needed to see how that works
  2. Duplicate the templates in Spanish
  3. ???

Pages with metadata

Some pages are marked as having a "metadata" template which links that page to data about the page.

There are two uses for metadata pages:

  1. For an explanation about how the information in the page was derived
  2. For additional data about the thing described in the page

In the former case, the translation of the metadata is, arguably, not relevant to the translation, but may be relevant to the translator.

In the latter case, the metadata is pertinent to the page user.

The wiki may need to separate the two types of metadata so that the translation process works well.

To be discussed?
