History & Background (Dossier)

The Royal Caledonian Expeditionary Service uses Rutherglen as a main training base. The Prince's Own Corps of Guards has a guard regiment from the fifth brigade stationed here; this is a TL-12 unit. The Caledonian Nobility consider Rutherglen a fairly tranquil planet, and most local barons feel secure with a small number of personal bodyguards. There are 300,000 local defense forces, organized into twelve brigades, with system defense forces, air force, support troops and wet navy.

This planet is also the home port for Task Force 12. This powerful task force of the Royal Caledonian Navy is part of the Spinward Station and charged with protecting versus Reaver activity.

World Starport (Sp)

Rutherglen has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Languages

• Anglic: The official language of the Principality of Caledon; specifically a group of dialects known simply as Caledonian Anglic.
  • Speakers with higher education and backgrounds from the upper middle class and higher speak a dialect very close to classical Anglic with a thin accent; heavier accents and different vocabulary occur the further afield from the nobility, and from Caledon itself, the speaker hails.
• Gheldaght: A descendant of the antiquarian Caledonian ethnic language, found among ardent cultural nationalists and the highly-educated.

World Economy

The Principality of Caledon issues a state currency, the Pound, but does not run a monopoly on legal tender.

Imperial credits are also accepted. Paying with "Imperials" incurs a 3% exchange fee planetside (1% at the Starport) -- except at times when the Pound is weak.
