Mytas 62T class Wheeled AFV, TL-5: The vehicle's soft iron armor sheaths the chassis to levels of protection sufficient to resist small arms and light anti-tank weapons. This design is sealed with over pressure for the crew and passengers in chemical/bacteriological/and nuclear protected forces roles.  Each vehicle is viewed as a discrete infantry company.  One platoon crews the vehicle with two platoons of infantry dismounts. The vehicle was envisioned as a land battleship. It has a turret, more at home on a wet navy cruiser or battleship, with a ~15" (39cm) naval gun. It has four massive 6m tall steel wheels with independent power and steering for each wheel.  The disadvantage of these wheels is the massive ground pressure, which so handicaps off road speed and mobility. The vehicle will get stuck in mud on 3+ and stuck in snow, sand, and soft ground on 5+ on a d6. As a result these vehicles have been constrained to heavily reinforced paved roads and urban environments. They are too big for maneuvering in crowded city streets, where the guerrillas love to hide among the "citizen-civilians". Most local bridges can not support their mass, and they are tall enough to ford rivers but can get stuck in mud, if unlucky.  Getting these vehicles unstuck is a massive engineering undertaking, often requiring weeks.  Getting a vehicle stuck has often ended a promising field officer's career, so they are reluctant to take chances off road.  Driving off road also restricts their speed and patrol range. They can not follow fleeing rebels into the rough country or hills and mountain ranges where they shelter. Combat engineers are constantly building mountain pass roads to forward fire bases and outposts, which need constant bomb removal, and bulldozers to clear the "rock slides" which keep blocking certain roads at certain times. The rebels never bother to engage these, they don't field vehicles which would contend with these behemoths. The gun and armor are overkill. Improvised road side bombs are used to score suspension hits. The armor is proof against local man portable small arms. Bullets ricochet off mostly in frustration, just to let the crew know that they are still not welcomed.  Several observers have noticed that they lack any MMGs which could provide close cover versus foot mobile insurgents. For visibility, they maintain day patrols, the sealed metal box gets very hot, hoisting 624kg shells is back breaking work. The over-pressure system has one redeeming feature, it does tend to keep the dust and sand out of the vehicle.  So they endlessly drive back and forth on vast paved highways, in convoys of engineers and fuel trucksThey are well equipped and appointed with an on board medic for their soldiers, two cooks to fed everyone from the on board kitchen, the engineer has his own workshop to keep the monster running. The pair of drivers switch off to relieve driver fatigue. One drives 4.5 hours out on the patrol route and the other drives 4.5 hours back to base. The natives know the timing of these routines precisely and often move at night to escape the heat and avoid detection. The mobile gun system often find themselves setting up, shelling random "rebel" positions, usually villages where someone said they saw a rebel. Collateral damage from these indiscriminate fire missions, drive many new recruits into the rebellion forces. The Goliath II class AFV was ordered and built in numbers to address this design's perceived short comings.

Following the Imperial Army and IISS Universal Vehicle Profile and data, additional information is presented in the format shown here. The small craft factor indicates the number of squadrons (of ten craft) carried on the vehicle when applicable. Tonnage on the universal vehicle profile is shown in kilotons (thousands of tons) where necessary.
One of the fundamental trade offs in the design was the decision to omit a main weapon in a stabilized turret on the vehicle's deck.  A stock power plant is installed to save mass and cost, the grav modules do not need to compete for power.  The turret is fitted with a laser rifle for target designation and a 4cm RAM AGL for suppressing softer targets.  The TAC missiles appear as an expensive afterthought and their range is limited.  They require a great deal of maintenance to keep operational and crews complain that the weapons load is insufficient to kill all enemy tank models.  They must attempt to flank units to score killing strikes.

The Goliath I class Armored Fighting Vehicle is a combatant groundcraft.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

So they endlessly drive back and forth on vast paved highways, in convoys of engineers and fuel trucks. They are well equipped and appointed with an on board medic for their soldiers, two cooks to fed everyone from the on board kitchen, the engineer has his own workshop to keep the monster running. The pair of drivers switch off to relieve driver fatigue. One drives 4.5 hours out on the patrol route and the other drives 4.5 hours back to base.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Designed and manufactured at TL–5, these vehicles were commissioned and license built for the Mytas Colonial Occupation Forces on Mytas (world). This was done at the insistence of Lyssana (world), along the Distant Fringe. The vehicle has a Lyssanan crew of forty: a main driver, assistant driver, chief gunner, 32 loaders, 2 cooks, engineer, medic and commander, and carries sixty armed and equipped colonial conscripted Mytas troops. These have served with occupation forces for twenty years.
