The 141st Fleet is the Numbered Imperial fleet serving the Third Imperium stationed in the Gaakish Subsector of the Antares Sector.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
Three Colonial BatRons are attached from the subsector reserve fleet for major operations. Joao produces a high volume (54) of excellent TL–12 Battle Riders. Shinar has been kind enough to craft (6), million ton, TL–13, dispersed structure Fleet Tenders. Honre has manufactured (18) advanced TL–14 asteroid Battle Cruisers which escort the fleet tenders and protect them while they deploy and recover their riders.
Each of the colonial squadrons features a pair of fleet tenders, with (9) riders and a group of (3) asteroid escorts for protection. Each Fleet Tender carries a 3,500ton Destroyer for long range (Jump-4) patrol away from the fleet. These Destroyers are quick and agile with heavy missile loads and decent anti missile defense. However, they are poorly protected versus particle beams or meson decay.
Goals (Mission)[edit]
The local admirals have created a unit, tolerant of colonial fleet operations and the deployment of second tier, lower technology designs. They feel these less sophisticated vessels can still contribute to the overall security of the realm. These locally designed ships can be built and maintained with colonial resources, which is seen as a cost savings for imperial fleet budgets. This situation is also a massive infusion of hard currency into the local ship building economy.
Strategy & Doctrine (Operations)[edit]
Their tactical deployment is constrained by the same limitations that all battle rider formations suffer. This is an oft debated topic. The inability to flee effectively from a losing engagement versus the superior firepower, ton for ton these ships can bring to bear. Imperial fleet admirals feel no compunction for commanding local, colonial units to stand fast, hold at all cost and die where they stand. It is a win, win as far as they are concerned. Local pride, and a fatalistic attitude, infrequently tested, has left them with more bravado, elan and esprit de corps, then some regular line units. The strategically minded sector fleet command intend to use this to their advantage.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Brutal cannibalization of the original BatRons assigned to this fleet historically, inexorably led to the necessity of commissioning colonial fleet replacement squadrons. Depleted imperial fleet depots refused orders to produce more battleships to replace the massive loses associated with the fratricidal dynastic struggles during the emperors of the flag eras. Local nobles felt they had no choice but to order local ship building to step in and compensate, despite the inferior technology levels. This can be complicated by the mixture of different technology level vessels in the same formations. Fleet engineers need to be versatile and adaptable to work in these units.
