D'Artur has a population between 10,000 and 10 million sophonts, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. This is a high technology world with available technology over the standards for Charted Space. It is a member of Third Imperium in the Remnants Subsector of Dagudashaag Sector and in the Domain of Vland. D'Artur, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world. This world has a nearby Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships. During the Long Night this world was named Emirkushguur.

Planetography[edit]

D'Artur is a member of the Dagudashaag Main. The naval base hosts elements of the 190th Fleet.

The world of D'Artur itself is a huge, high gravity world with a dense, elliptical atmosphere. The atmosphere produces a dense, almost impenetrable cloud cover blocking the view of the surface.

Stellar Data[edit]

D'Artur has two stars in the star system.

Mainworld Topography and Geography[edit]

Two significant mountain ranges ring the world. The equatorial range runs virtually uninterrupted around the planet; the second, almost halfway to the south pole, is interrupted by two separate oceans. The south polar range is shorter, but boasts seven of the ten highest peaks on the planet, including the colossal Askranii mountain, more than 15 miles tall. Not far from it is the Yalipii Trench, almost 8 miles below sea level.

History[edit]

  • First Survey Planetary Designation: Emirkushguur
  • Native Designation: Trakiini

The surface is off limits to all but cleared naval personnel. In the recent past the navy have shot down non-military ships attempting to land. The reason for the localized Red Zone classification and the Navy's aggressive pursuit of secrecy has remained a mystery. The Imperial Navy have refused point blank to comment on why the world is off-limits.

The naval base is situated on Morte, the satellite of D'Artur. The satellite is the site of the only permanent surface habitation in the system. The remaining population lives in structures floating high in the dense atmosphere and above the clouds.

D'Artur is the unofficial duchy capital of Remnants Subsector. The current duke Stefan de Bere-Owstrowski, like nearly every previous duke for the last five hundred years, is a high ranking serving officer with the Imperial Navy.

Civilization[edit]

The Trakii were the most successful race the planet spawned, growing from individual carnivores to small communities to a world-dominating civilization that lasted more than 200,000 years.

Their downfall came when the Solomani PERFORMAC Pharmaceuticals conglomerate -- based on Pixtome (Core 1124) for over five centuries prior to the founding of the Third Imperium -- surreptitiously tested an anti-aging virus. The unintended result was the rise of the "Abominations", savage Trakii hatchings that began displacing their civilized forebears.

As of Imperial Year 0, the few remaining Trakii were loners and individualists, unwilling to taint the memory of the great civilizations of their ancestors. They were embarrassed by any longing for the greatness of history; instead, they remained proud to participate in the final passage of their kind. The truth about the Abominations wasn't common knowledge, among Trakii or elsewhere.

By 1100, the most popular theory for the naval interdiction of D'Artur is that the world is home to an undisclosed war-like race which the Navy are developing into an elite fighting force. Of course, the world is indeed home to an aggressive species -- the last reminder of the once-magnificent Trakii race.
