Viking started off as a small company with a single Solomani Tramp Liner, based on Engrange (Spinward Marches 0425). It offered cheap cruises to graduating Darrians who wished to visit the other Confederation worlds nearby. The trips proved to be inordinately popular, despite the company being censured for allowing unsupervised raucous parties and vast amounts of alcohol consumed aboard.
The company caters to mid-range customers, offering reasonable accommodation and food, but no luxuries. It prospers on its reputation for always keeping to schedule and never having lost a vessel to break down or pirates. It combines passenger accommodation with some bulk cargo capacity, using mid-size liners ranging from 400 to 1,000 tons.
