Latest revision as of 19:14, 7 December 2024

An Imperial duchy comprising all of the systems in Vincennes Subsector.

  • It is one of the duchies of politically volatile Deneb Sector.

Description (Specifications)[edit]

The Duchy of Vincennes was created in 243 and the Marquisate of Vincennes was created at the same time.

  • Its proximity to Vincennes means that Northammon, although arguably a powerful world in its own right, is a useful pawn of the Duke.
  • The Marquises Frisgar, Achemadon, and Alaungpaya also serve the Duke of Vincennes.
  • The County of Dekha is in an interesting position. Dekha lacks a good starport but is an economic powerhouse nonetheless, and is far enough from Vincennes to have a degree of autonomy. In short, it had a relatively stable bargaining position within the Duchy of Vincennes, and is the base from which the subsector exerts influence on Gulf, Zeng and Kamlar.

The Denebian Duchies[edit]

There is no Sector Duke in Deneb. Differences of opinion or agenda between the sector's seven duchies are settled by way of diplomacy or force. Major worlds build and maintain Deneb's capital fleets, but these fleets are all Imperial by default and are not used for resolving internal, regional disputes. This is an Imperial law, put into effect after the Civil War period. As a result, Dukes in the Deneb Sector only have a small percentage of a duchy's resources available for resolving local conflict. Each Duke maintains a number of small starships for various purposes but it is always more cost effective to hire companies and mercenaries for general-purpose commercial and tactical work. It is also common for a duchy to sell Letters of Marque and Reprisal to accomplish certain general objectives. The duchies live in a milieu of shifting alliances, as each acts and reacts to the changing political and business climate of the sector.

Vincennes Politics (specifics)[edit]

Factors from Inar, Sabine, and elsewhere attempt to dabble in or sabotage the political process in Vincennes, due to its potentially overwhelming power.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

The duchy is formally governed by the Duke of Vincennes, but for historical reasons the dukes have resided permanently on Capital since 672. In their absence, the duchy is run by the Marquis of Vincennes who is also Count of Perez and Erisis.
