System Data[edit]

Molo-Loudom System[edit]

The primary is Molo, an ordinary red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.0136 Sols, a mass of 0.3626 Sols, and a diameter of 551,000 km. (I-I) a vacuum worldlet, (I-II) Loudom, designated the mainworld, (I-III) an exotic atmosphere radworld, (II) a sparse icy planetoid belt, (III) a ringed large gas giant, (IV-I) a small gas giant, (IV-II) a ringed small ice giant, and (V) an exotic atmosphere bigworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Narusa Subsystem[edit]

The companion is Narusa, a dim red subdwarf star that lies at a mean distance of 2,370 AU from Molo. It has a luminosity of 0.00103 Sols, a mass of 0.081 Sols, and a diameter of 109,000 km. (I) a trace atmosphere worldlet, (II-I) a vacuum worldlet, (II-II) a vacuum worldlet, (III) a trace atmosphere worldlet, (IV-I) a dense icy planetoid belt, (IV-II) a ringed small gas giant, (V) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, and (VI) a ringed large gas giant form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(I-II) Loudom[edit]

(I-II) Loudom is designated the mainworld. It orbits Molo at a mean distance of 0.31 AU (46.4 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 104 days 17 hours: it is tidally locked to Molo. The axial tilt is 5 degrees. Loudom has a diameter of 6,192 km, a density of 4.22 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.37 G. Tidal stresses generated by the gravitational pull of Molo cause frequent geological activity. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.21 bar and a composition of 89% nitrogen (N2), 10% abiotic oxygen (O2), and 1% argon (Ar), water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), neon (Ne) and other trace gases. The taint is caused by the low percentage of atmospheric oxygen. Approximately 28% of the surface is covered in sheets of water-ice and seas of water kept liquid by geothermal activity: average tidal ranges exceed 0.1m. Mean surface temperature: -33°C. The atmosphere is sluggish and weak weather systems driven by the star and the seas drift across the globe. The climate is static.

Mainworld Geography and Topography[edit]

Total surface area: 120 million km², Land surface area: 86 million km², Water surface area: 34 million km².

  • The oxygen in the atmosphere is abiotic in origin, produced by the photocatalytic reaction between UV energy radiating from the star and titanium dioxide (TiO2), which is found in surface minerals such as ilmenite.

Native Lifeforms[edit]

Molo-Loudom System[edit]

No world in the system is known to have native life.

Narusa Subsystem[edit]

No world in the subsystem is known to have native life.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

Colonized with excess population from Oromet (world) a small surplus fleet of obsolete sleeper ships were sent in search of a new world. They did not make it far before the substandard drive units on the fleet’s ships began to malfunction. They arrived without fanfare and the frustrated crews decided to settle on Loudom (world) rather than risk pushing on. A few crews of survivors disagreed and their fates are unknown, it is suspected that they misjumped and little to no trace of those ships remain and no survivors have ever been found. Each colony ship held 1,000 sleeping colonists. Poorly trained and lead, they were ill equipped. Census data had determined that they were not economically useful. The governments had turned these operations over to large corporations. The government granted them lucrative commercial resettlement contracts. Successful mission parameters were deliberately vague. All that mattered is that native populations were smaller and remaining resources more plentiful as a result. The trade cartel had market advantages if this wayward colonizers wanted to export trade goods back home. All the computer models predicted their home world would be better off without these extra people.

Each ship was disassembled in orbit and formed what were supposed to be the first twelve colonial arcologies. Eventually, six remained loyal to the Protectorate of Leset, and even paid nominal taxes as isolated client states. Six broke off to form their own free trade league. What initial surveys failed to notice were the tiny alien outposts. Once the colonists demonstrated their interest in developing this isolated world, the race was on.

There have been numerous battles, skirmishes and even a small war or two since the colonist’s arrival. Archaeological and historical records indicate that détente between the four major power groupings had been pretty consistent. Each city-state was really independent. Each maintained tiny security forces to police the populations within the respective city-states. There were less than 1,000 trained soldiers on the whole planet. Alliances shifted and influence was traded on a near daily level.

Then something happened. The tiny war among the angry colonies spiraled out of control. Chemical and advanced genomic biological weapons are suspected. It is possible some naturally occurring plague emerged. In any event the population was devastated. The majority of the current “population” are the crew of a hospital ship that sits in orbit. They enforce a quarantine of the surface beyond the starport which has been sterilized and recovered. It is heavily fortified and defended by high capacity belt fed automated war sentinels. The dedicated members of this mercy mission have been trying in vain to convince bunkered “survivors” to evacuate until the nature of the illness and its cause and cure can be worked out. The remaining lunatics are mostly nonsensical, and extremely violent. They have murdered and eaten several teams of aid workers sent to help them. Handfuls wander the empty husks of the ruined colony sites looting and foraging in the mostly vacant post-apocalyptic waste land.

World starport[edit]

Loudom has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level[edit]

Loudom possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.

World government[edit]

Loudom has no central government or substantial government apparatus; an Anarchy. The largest governmental structure would be a family, tribe, or single clan. The largest group will be between 50 and 100 individuals, and there may be dozens to hundreds of them. This governmental structure can be stable over long periods of time if the population remains small or geographically separated.
