(IIIb) Oyogo is the second of the four major moons of (III) Maruba and is designated the [[mainworld]]. Oyogo orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 15 diameters (720,000 km). It has an orbital period of 78 days 2 hours: it is [[tidally locked]] to Maruba. The axial tilt is 3 degrees. Oyogo has a diameter 6,184 km, a density of 4.69 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.41 G. The world is flexed by tidal forces and is geologically active. Its atmosphere is rated as Very Thin, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 0.24 bar and a composition of 85% nitrogen, 14% oxygen, and 1% argon, water vapour, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. The atmospheric taint is caused by the low percentage of atmospheric oxygen. Approximately 16% of the surface is covered in seas of water kept liquid by geothermal activity: average tidal ranges exceed 0.1m. Mean surface temperature: -103°C. The atmosphere is dynamic and strong weather systems driven by the star scour the surface. The climate is seasonal.

Oyogo is a poor, non-agricultural and nonindustrial hellworld with a population struggling to survive in an inhospitable environment.

  • Hellworlds often offer daily, and sometimes even hourly, life-threatening situations to their inhabitants. Survivors often develop intense survival skills and tend to be grim realists.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society.
  • It is unable to produce quality foodstuffs and must import them.
  • It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Paradise Subsector of Halcyon Sector.

System Data

Lewasa-Oyogo System

The primary is Lewasa, a dim red main sequence star. It has a luminosity of 0.001 Sols, a mass of 0.215 Sols, and a diameter of 280,000 km. (I) a vacuum iceworld (II) a vacuum worldlet, (III) Maruba, a large gas giant: (IIIb) Oyogo is its largest satellite and is designated the mainworld, (IV) a small gas giant, and (V) an exotic atmosphere bigworld form the starward part of the outer system. Orbital positions (VI) through (XI) are unavailable due to the presence of the companion star. (XII) a sparse icy planetoid belt forms the spaceward part of the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Ujubi Subsystem

The companion is Ujubi, a red subdwarf star. It has a luminosity of 0.0006 Sols, a mass of 0.058 Sols, and a diameter of 73,700 km. It orbits Lewasa at 42.3 AU (orbital position (X), 6.3 billion km) and has an orbital period of 593.3 years. (I) a trace atmosphere worldlet, (I) a vacuum worldlet, (III) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, and (IV) a vacuum iceworld form the outer system. Only the bigworld retains satellites.

(III) Maruba

(III) Maruba is a small gas giant that orbits Lewasa at a mean distance of 0.68 AU (101.7 million km) and has an orbital period of 1 year 76.5 days. It has a diameter of 48,000km and is a faintly banded blue-green colour. It retains a family of three major satellites of which the second, (IIIb) Oyogo, is designated the mainworld.

Mainworld Data

(IIIb) Oyogo

(IIIb) Oyogo is the second of the four major moons of (III) Maruba and is designated the mainworld. It orbits its parent world at a mean distance of 15 diameters (720,000 km). It has an orbital period of 78 days 2 hours: it is tidally locked to Maruba.

Mainworld geography and topography

Total surface area: 120 million km², Land surface area: 101 million km², Water surface area: 19 million km².

History & Background (Dossier)

World starport

Oyogo has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level

Oyogo possesses a Technology Level of TL–6.

World government

Oyogo is governed by a Civil Service Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy leadership influences policy. The government leadership may select the bureaucracy leadership, but not its membership. Usually the governmental leadership is divided, or incapable of setting policy, and the bureaucracy provides a stabilizing influence. This ruling bureaucracy may be the full government bureaucractic apparatus or a section with limited jurisdiction but considerable influence, like the military.
