Carasan is a pre-agricultural, rich world with a moderate population of over a hundred million, but not yet a billion sophonts.
- It is a pre-agricultural world with an environment suitable for large scale agricultural and livestock industries that have not yet been widely developed.
- Its economy and population are growing and living conditions are expected to slowly improve barring outside forces.
- This is a "low technology" world with technology competencies well below standard for Charted Space.
- It is a Non-Aligned world dominated by human sophonts located in the Demon's Eye Subsector of Far Home Sector.

System Data
The primary is Vensul, an ordinary orange main sequence star. The inner system consists of (II) a small rocky world – orbital position (I) is empty, other than a few minor asteroids following eccentric orbits. (III) Carasan orbits in the habitable zone and is nominated as the mainworld. The outer system consists of (IV) a rocky world. The inner and the outer worlds are balls of cratered rock with trace atmospheres. Carasan is the largest planetary body within the system and the only one to retain a complex atmosphere. It is also the only world that retains satellites.
Mainworld Data
II Carasan and its close twin moons, Salacor and Murit, orbit Vensul at a mean distance of 0.7 AU. The planet is a medium-sized body with an above average density and a surface gravity of nearly 0.8G. It is geologically active and seismic events are common.
The world is abundant in metals and minerals of all kinds. Carasan has a nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere containing significant traces of argon and carbon dioxide. It is rated as standard, with a mean surface pressure of 0.8 bar. It has oceans of liquid water that cover nearly 75% of the surface.
Mainworld Geography & Topography
The largest continent, representing approximately one half of the land surface of the world, sits directly under the northern pole: the remainder of Carasan's land area is made up of sub-continental islands and long archipelagos. The primary star and the twin moons cause huge oceanic tides, with average tidal ranges exceeding 10 m. The climate is generally cool and temperate, with temperatures averaging around 8ºC. There are extensive polar icecaps with glacial offshoots extending into the temperate zones.
Native Lifeforms
Carasan has extensive native life. Lush, verdant jungles swathe the equatorial regions while temperate forests and rolling grasslands clad cooler climes. Native fauna is varied and the apex lifeforms are generally large. Avian species are common and the skies are filled with dense flocks and soaring raptors.
History & Background / Dossier
Carasan is the homeworld of the Acara, a reclusive and philosophical Sophont species that tend to shun direct contact.
World Starport
Carasan has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Technology Level
Carasan possesses a Technology Level of TL–4.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Telephone and telegraphs, widespread printing.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early electricity, hydrocarbon internal combustion.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land: Trains and early automobiles.
- Water: Clippers and steam ships.
- Air: Dirigibles, balloons, very basic rockets.
World Government
Carasan is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.
