Valen is a high-population, industrial world with a billion or more sophonts in population size.

  • As an industrial world, this planet has well-developed manufacturing and processing industries. Manufactured goods are a major export item.
  • Its economy is rapidly growing and living conditions are expected to rapidly improve barring outside forces.
  • It is a member of the Enlightened in the Utt Subsector of Halcyon Sector, which is part of the Distant Fringe.

Astrography and Planetology[edit]

This star system is detailed using the Fringian Variant System Description.

System Data[edit]

Increes-Valen System[edit]

The primary is Increes, a yellow subgiant star. It has a luminosity of 4.9 Sols, a mass of 2 Sols, and a diameter of 3.896 million km. The inner system consists of (I) a vacuum worldlet, (II) an exotic atmosphere bigworld, (III) a corrosive atmosphere inferno world, (IV) a trace atmosphere worldlet, and (V) a thin atmosphere hospitable world. (VI) Valen orbits within the habitable zone and is designated the mainworld. (VII) a large gas giant, (VIII) a sparse icy planetoid belt, (IX) a ringed small gas giant, (X) a small ice giant, and (XI) a trace atmosphere iceworld form the outer system. Many of the worlds retain satellites.

Mainworld Data[edit]

(VI) Valen[edit]

(VI) Valen is designated the mainworld. It orbits Increes at a mean distance of 5.03 AU (752.5 million km), within the habitable zone. It has an orbital period of 7 years 357 days and a rotation period of 32.5 hours. The axial tilt is 25 degrees. Valen has a diameter of 9,633 km, a density of 5.79 g/cm³, and a surface gravity of 0.79 G. The world is geologically very active. Its atmosphere is rated as Standard, Tainted, with a mean surface pressure of 1.32 bar and a composition of 73% nitrogen, 26% oxygen, and 1% argon, water vapour, carbon dioxide, neon and other trace gases. The atmospheric taint is caused by the high percentage of atmospheric oxygen. Approximately 59% of the surface is covered in oceans of liquid water: average tidal ranges exceed 0.5m. Mean surface temperature: 31°C. The atmosphere is dynamic and powerful weather systems driven by the star and the oceans sweep across the globe. The climate is seasonal.

Satellites[edit]

Valen retains two natural satellites, a vacuum worldlet named Brenn and a thin atmosphere hospitable world named Hod:

(VIa) Brenn (UWP Y200000-0, orbiting at 6 Diameters/58,000 km)
(VIb) Hod (UWP Y344000-0, orbiting at 25 Diameters/241,000 km)

Mainworld geography and topography[edit]

Total surface area: 291 million km², Water surface area: 172 million km², Land surface area: 119 million km². The atmospheric taint is caused by the high levels of atmospheric oxygen. Breathing the atmosphere without suitable filtration equipment will cause oxygen narcosis and oxygen toxicity. Symptoms include sensations of euphoria and nausea, seizures, bouts of physical rigidity followed by convulsions and unconsciousness, breathing difficulties, damage to the lungs and the heart, and death.

Native lifeforms[edit]

Valen has extensive native life. Their metabolic functions power the process of atmospheric renewal.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

No information yet available.

World starport[edit]

Valen has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World technology level[edit]

Valen possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
    • Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
    • Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
    • Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World government[edit]

Valen has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. A colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.
