Thetan Void

The Thetan Void is an astrographic feature lying across parts of five subsectors within Theta Borealis Sector and Theron Sector.

• It is a rift area of low stellar density.
• It is a barrier to interstellar travel.

The Thetan Void is a large area of lower stellar density lying within the coreward-trailing quadrant of Theta Borealis Sector.

• Other large rifts in the region include the Thetan Rift to spinward-coreward and the Great Rift to rimward.

Locally at least, a rift is an astrographic concept based on Jump Drive performance.

The highest tech level commonly encountered out this Far Along (spinward of the Third Imperium) is TL–12, though a few worlds may be more advanced.

• This level of technology allows the routine use of up to Jump-3 drives.
• Locally, areas that cannot be crossed by Jump-3-capable vessels are denoted as rift regions.
• The nature and borders of a rift may be determined by other criteria in different regions.

The Void is considered to be a single distinct region:

• It measures around 7 parsecs coreward-rimward by around 11 parsecs spinward-trailing.
• The Korsumug Gate marks its spinward edge.

The Thetan Void is a desolate and lonely place, empty of stars and uncrossable by conventional starships.

• A few deep-frozen rogue worlds may lie within its boundaries.

The Void prevents routine travel by jump-capable vessels.

• It presents a significant obstacle to interstellar trade and commerce.
• It forms a natural defensive barrier against the Jaibok.

The Void was originally charted during the 300s and 400s, during the Imperial First Survey.
