Thanisha is an agricultural, nonindustrial world still lacking adequate means to expand its economy.
- As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
- It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world.
- It is a member of the Katanga Empire in the Katanga Subsector of Beyond Sector.
Description (Astrography & Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Thanisha has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. While the thin atmosphere does not require survival gear this atmosphere also contains an unusual taint such as disease, a hazardous gas mix, pollutants, or sulfur compounds which requires the use of a Filter Mask. Some taints may require more protective equipment. TL–3 or more advanced survival gear is required to settle this world.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
World Starport[edit]
Thanisha has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
World Population (P)[edit]
Thanisha has a population of 200,000 sophonts (hundreds of thousands).
- This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.
World Technology Level (T)[edit]
Thanisha possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land & Water: Grav belts and maturing gravcraft.
- Air: Greatly improved hybrid grav-aircraft.
- Space: Improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-1.
World Government (G)[edit]
Thanisha is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.
- This world is a member of the Katanga Empire, in which the Instruments of State rule in the name of the Emperor. Chief Instruments, who are ministers of various bureaus, are effectively autonomous rulers of their departments but are constrained by procedure and a culture of consensus from pursuing divisive policies.
World Military[edit]
Most Katangan citizens serve a brief stint in a local Instrument of Public Order paramilitary police force, either as conscripts or in a part-time reserve role.
World Law (L)[edit]
Thanisha has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All objects specifically manufactured as weapons are typically regulated or prohibited (outside private residences or visiting starships).
World Economy[edit]
As with the rest of the Katanga Empire, the real lifeblood of the economy is found in small-time entrepreneurs who often lack the proper documents to legally operate a business, but who flourish by means of small bribes and official indifference.
World Culture[edit]
Close ties with family and local community are prized. Outsiders tend to be treated with a taciturn suspicion.
