Teme is an agricultural, nonindustrial, and very rich garden world with a near-ideal, utopian environment conducive to most sophonts.

  • As an agricultural world, this world is a near-ideal environment for producing quality foodstuffs of plant, animal, and other forms. Quality foodstuffs are a major export commodity for this world.
  • It requires extensive imports of outside technology to maintain a modern, star-faring society. Having to import most manufactured and high tech goods drives the price up for these items at this world. However, a rich world like this one can afford the cost of importation.
  • This is a rich world with a prosperous and thriving world economy.
  • Its economy and population are growing and living conditions are expected to incrementally rise barring outside forces. The world will grow even quicker when its industrial sector begins to develop.
  • It is a member of the Katanga Empire in the Katanga Subsector of Beyond Sector.

Mainworld Data[edit]

Teme has strange seasons due to an extreme axial tilt as it completes a short year in orbit around its pair of red dwarf suns.

Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]

Teme has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. A Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear and will likely be easy for most sophonts to breathe.

History & Background (Dossier)[edit]

World Starport[edit]

Teme has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.

World Population (P)[edit]

Teme has a population of 7,000,000 sophonts (millions).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Teme possesses a Technology Level of TL–9.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Fiber optics and satellite communication and data networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fusion power.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Ultra high-speed trains and early grav vehicles.
    • Water: High efficiency sailcraft, multihulled seacraft, improved artificial gills.
    • Air: Tiltrotorcraft, exotic VTOL's, PARWIG, and rocket-assisted suborbitals.
    • Space: SSTO spacecraft, early military spacecraft (System Craft), and interstellar STL starships
    • FTL: Prototype Jump Drive-1.

World Government (G)[edit]

Teme is governed by an Impersonal Bureaucracy. The leadership of the government takes another form (democracy, dictatorship, oligarchy), but the bureaucracy dictates government policy and its execution. Government leadership is reduced to little more than figureheads and does not select the bureaucracy leadership or its members.

  • This world is a member of the Katanga Empire, in which the Instruments of State rule in the name of the Emperor. Chief Instruments, who are ministers of various bureaus, are effectively autonomous rulers of their departments but are constrained by procedure and a culture of consensus from pursuing divisive policies.

World Military[edit]

Most Katangan citizens serve a brief stint in a local Instrument of Public Order paramilitary police force, either as conscripts or in a part-time reserve role.

World Law (L)[edit]

Teme has a high law level with laws covering many areas of interactions of people, corporations, and the government. A few worlds with this law level may be Amber Zones. Any interaction with the judicial system requires an Advocate trained in the local legal system. Law enforcement is present almost everywhere, either as people or via technology. Legal proceedings can take weeks to months to resolve and involve a dozen or more people. All blade weapons and firearms, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.

World Economy[edit]

As with the rest of the Katanga Empire, the real lifeblood of the economy is found in small-time entrepreneurs who often lack the proper documents to legally operate a business, but who flourish by means of small bribes and official indifference.

World Culture[edit]

Close ties with family and local community are prized. Outsiders tend to be treated with a taciturn suspicion.

World Timeline[edit]

  • 618: The Katanga Free State annexes Teme, along with another agricultural world, Dagocag.
  • 622: The representative democracy of the Katanga Free State collapses, emancipating the two subservient systems. An experiment in direct democracy called the Katanga Peoples Combine results.
  • 630: General Javin Oresta seizes control of the unstable Katanga state, creating the Katanga Empire.
