Syrenaica has a population between 10,000 and 10 million sophonts, lacking the industrial base to be completely self-supporting. The governance of this world is from Gabrael (Deneb 2807). It is a member of Third Imperium in the Antra Subsector of Deneb Sector and in the Domain of Deneb. Syrenaica, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world.
Description (Planetology)[edit]
Stellar Data[edit]
Mainworld Data[edit]
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Syrenaica is a Meso World between 8,800km and 10,400km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.6G and 0.8G. The horizon will appear about 4.4km away.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Syrenaica has a pressure of 0.71 to 1.49 atmospheres. A Standard Atmosphere does not require survival gear and will likely be easy for most sophonts to breathe.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Syrenaica has 85-95% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few small continents, and a number of islands and archipelagos. Dry land is limited. Wilderness refueling is possible.
Native Lifeforms[edit]
There is an abundance of life in the oceans of Syrenaica. The cold temperatures do not faze the local fauna. Each species possesses a gene that enables the creatures to produce a compound similar to ethylene glycol, granting it resistance to cold water.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Dome-fatigued colonists from Insi Kar (Deneb 2406) founded Syrenaica. Although the name's origin isn't fully known, it could be a spin on Cyrenaica, an old Terran name for a plateau region near the Mediterranean Sea. Plateaus do dominate what little land there is on Syrenaica.
Syrenaica's purpose was to serve as an agricultural colony for Insi Kar. While the population and available land have always been too low to be considered a true agricultural world for trading purposes, what Syrenaica does produce is sufficient to meet its needs as well as those of Insi Kar. The Syrenaicans also set self-imposed limits on the amount of aquatic hunting they could do so as to prevent themselves from damaging the oceans' ecosystem.
World Starport[edit]
Syrenaica has a Class C Starport, an average quality installation which features amenities including unrefined fuel for starships, some brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing maintenance and other kinds of repair. Ports of this classification generally have only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.
World Government (G)[edit]
Syrenaica has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. This is a colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.
Historical Data[edit]
Rebellion and The New Era
Syrenaica relied on mercenaries hired by Insi Kar to protect it from Vargr corsairs during the Rebellion. What little topography there is on Syrenaica was easily defended from invaders.
When the Abandonment came, Insi Kar granted Syrenaica its independence. Some chose to stay, others left for the safety of the Regency.
After the Collapse, Syrenaica's population abandoned their main settlements, and retreated into cave complexes and other natural fortifications. The world is mostly ocean, and what land exists is rocky cliffs and high plateaus that offer few landing spots for raiders and Vampires. The locals seem to have completely forsaken offworld contact, though, and Regency contact teams have occasionally come under attack from armed groups on the surface. Contact with the locals is sporadic, and most local chieftains refuse to talk to safeside representatives.References & Contributors (Sources)[edit]
