Shashankhu, as a member world of the Third Imperium, holds the estate of an Imperial knight, a member of the Imperial Landed Nobility who acts as an Imperial representative to the world. This world contains an Imperial Scout Base, capable of handling Scout Service starships and personnel. During the Long Night this world was named Kashiinkhind. The Nahuatl name of the world is Tetzatotec.

History and Background[edit]

During the First Imperium and Second Imperium the world had an established AAB branch.

Shashankhu was originally established as a prison planet during the Pacification Campaigns and had a reputation for extreme brutality. In 322 the prison was closed down and the planet was handed over the surviving inhabitants to run. The locals managed to survived by turning the work camps and mines into an extremely profitable business.

In 905 the Council of Decision elected to join the Amec Trade Protectorate.

Today, "Shashers" have a reputation for working hard and playing hard. It is the only world within the boundaries of the Amec Protectorate that has not criminalized drunkenness or murder. The only crime on the statue books is theft, which carries a sentence of death by being flayed alive.

World Starport (Sp)[edit]

Shashankhu has a Class D Starport, a poor quality installation which has few of the expected amenities. There is unrefined fuel for starships and a limited variety of ship provisions. There is no shipyard of any kind, but there may be parts and technical support for doing minor services and repair. Ports of this classification generally consist of only a downport, unless this is a trade port or system with an hostile environment mainworld.

World Population (P)[edit]

Shashankhu has a population of 5,000,000 sophonts (millions).

  • This is a Nonindustrial World, too small to support the complete chain of production of most goods from start to finish.

Demographics[edit]

There are two broad categories of citizen within the Amec Trade Protectorate:

  • The Sun-born, which consists of the nobility, their families, courtesans, and Cuaupilli (those who have successfully undertaken the adolescent Test of Worth).
  • The Amtlan, which includes the Maceualli ("tribute" or protected ones) who toil on behalf of their lord, and the Pochteca or independent merchants.

Linguistic Topography[edit]

The following languages are among the most commonly used within this astrographic region:

  • Anglic: One of the two official languages of the Third Imperium.
  • Karanga: A Terran-derived language that is a secondary tongue within the Amec Protectorate.
  • Nahuatl: A language with its roots in ancient Terra, now used as the primary language of the Amec Trade Protectorate.
  • Sall: The predominate language of Bolivar (Dagudashaag 0240), spoken as a common second language in the Trade Protectorate.

The planet's Nahuatl name is Tetzatotec.

Although the current Nahuatl designation is not official, it is included in order to assist travellers who may find it beneficial to use this planetary designation while travelling within the Federation. It is strongly recommended that visitors obtain a good quality translator MemClip prior to entering Federation space. INDISS produce a high quality Galanglic-Nahuatl two-way clip available from all good data libraries, price Cr. 150 rrp.

World Technology Level (T)[edit]

Shashankhu possesses a Technology Level of TL–7.

  • Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Early video and early satellite communication networks.
  • Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Early fuel cells, solar energy, and geothermal power sources.
  • Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
    • Land: Improved automobiles, hovercraft, and bullet trains.
    • Water: Hydrofoils and early triphibians.
    • Air: Hang gliders and supersonic jets.
    • Space: Deep space probes and interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).

World Government (G)[edit]

Shashankhu is governed by a Representative Democracy where government leadership is by representatives elected by eligible voters. What determines an eligible voter varies. The representatives determine policy, including selecting members of the bureaucracy. There can be referenda, votes by eligible voters on specific subjects.

World Law (L)[edit]

Shashankhu has no law in practice. It is an Anarchy. On many worlds, this by itself justifies an Amber Zone advisory. There are few laws, covering only important areas. There may be few or no law enforcement officers, the expectation is citizens will bring law breakers to the attention of the Judicial system. Legal proceedings will be fast, with few people involved. For interactions outside of the framework of the laws, cultural norms dominate.

  • The wise men known as Tlamatinime act as both lawyer (there are no actual lawyers in Amec Protectorate space) and judge.

World Economy[edit]

AzTec Trading.jpg

Currency is the Quetzal.

Each planet within the Amec Protectorate must pay the Tlatoani a tribute (originally it was a proper tithe of 10% of overall production but over the years it increased to 12%).

  • The local bureaucracy retains 6% while the other 6% is sold under the AzTec label to help maintain the court and pay for the Amec Navy.
