Astrography & Planetology[edit]
Rydem is a colony world of Mire.
Rydem is a small world orbiting relatively close to the system mainworld.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Rydem is a trophy colony world, maintained by the system mainworld, Mire.
Pre-Maghiz, it was colonized for scientific reasons. The entire population died as the result of the Maghiz as they were completely dependent on technology and continual resupply from Mire. It wasn't until many years after Maghiz, when Mire regained Tech-8 capacity, that Rydem was re-colonized.
Currently, Rydem is a comfortable world in its own right, with a substantial population. It has several T-10 cities with impressive skyscraper towers and corresponding subterreanean grotto constructs, both enabled by the relatively low gravity of Rydem. Structures tend to be over-engineered with additional low-tech back-up systems.
The main power grid of Rydem is based on modern fusion plants, but there is a backup to the main grid based on simpler fission nuclear plants using molten salt reactors (MSR) that have analog gauges and controls, and can be manually operated. Likewise, spare parts and manufactured raw materials are stored and maintained in dedicated storehouses. Rydem law also requires that physical publications be created for all technical works, and that these be stored in the various municipal Libraries.
World Starport (Sp)[edit]
Rydem has a Class F Spaceport, a good quality secondary installation for handing expected in-system traffic. It can supply amenities like brokerage services for passengers and cargo and refined fuel. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Spaceports usually consist of a Downport.
World Technology Level[edit]
Rydem possesses a Technology Level of TL–10 or TL-A in Hexadecimal Notation.
- Common Communication technologies for this TL include: Holovision, Personal Global Communications, and advanced Translators.
- Common Power Generation technologies for this TL include: Increasingly advanced fusion plants and advanced fuel cells.
- Common Transportation technologies for this TL include:
- Land & Water: Grav belts and maturing gravcraft.
- Air: Greatly improved hybrid grav-aircraft.
- Space: Improved interplanetary spacecraft (System Craft).
- FTL: Jump Drive-1.
World Size[edit]
Rydem is a Meso World between 10,400km and 12,000km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 0.7G and 0.9G. The horizon will appear about 4.7km away.
World Atmosphere[edit]
Rydem has a pressure of 0.43 to 0.70 atmospheres. The Thin Atmosphere does not require survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
World Hydrosphere[edit]
Rydem has 55-65% of its surface covered by liquid water. It has significant large liquid bodies. Wilderness refueling is possible.
World Population[edit]
Rydem has a population of 100,000,000 sophonts (hundreds of millions).
World Government[edit]
Rydem has a Captive Government or Colony. The world is ruled by an external government, there is no self-rule. A colony or conquered area. The local government is an oligarchy appointed by, and answerable only to, the external government.
World Law Level[edit]
Rydem has a moderate level with laws covering many areas of government and interaction. These laws are simple enough that most people can act as their own advocate, though for serious issues a professional is recommended. Law enforcement officials will be present, but not in great numbers. All firearms except shotguns, and anything more destructive, are typically regulated or prohibited.
- The Taledh Code is the basis of Darrian law.
World Demographics[edit]
Darrian, population 95%
- Aslan, population 5%
