Procyon (otherwise known as Alpha Canis Minoris) is a binary star system composed of a white early subgiant star of spectral type F5 orbited by a degenerate dwarf star of classification DQZ.
Description (Specifications)[edit]
The two components of the Procyon system (Procyon A & Procyon B) orbit each other in a somewhat eccentric orbit (e=0.407) with an average separation of 15.0AU, with a periastron of 8.9AU and an apastron of 21.0AU.
- The orbital period of the pair is 40.82 years.
- The habitable zone around Procyon A lies at about 2.7AU.
- The habitable zone of Procyon A might not contain stable orbits due to the periastron of Procyon B.
The Procyon star system is approximately 3.5pc from Terra, and is located in a Rimward/Rimtrailing direction from Terra at bearing 213.7o Galactic Longitude and +13.0o North] Galactic Latitude.
- Procyon's closest neighboring star is Luyten's Star, which lies about 0.34 pc distant and would appear as a visual magnitude 2.7 star in the night sky of Fenris.
History & Background (Dossier)[edit]
Procyon is the primary star of the world Fenris/Sol (Solomani Rim 1830).
