Peridot is a rich world with a moderate population of over a hundred million, but not yet a billion sophonts in size.
- This world has high-grade living conditions with a good climate and a non-harmful environment. As such, this world is much sought after with large queues for immigration here.
- This world has a prosperous and thriving world economy.
- Most observers think that the planet's economy and population will prosper further in the near future barring outside forces.
- It is a member of the Third Imperium in the Gazulin Subsector of Trojan Reach Sector in the Domain of Deneb.
- This world has an Imperial Naval Base, capable of handling warships.
Description (Planetology)[edit]
This world is part of the namesake Peridot Cluster.
Stellar Data[edit]
Mainworld Data[edit]
Peridot is a large, rich world with a dense, breathable atmosphere and 91% hydrographics. The planet's land area consists entirely of several large archipelagos, most of which are located in the southern hemisphere.
Mainworld Size (S)[edit]
Peridot is a Big World between 13,600km and 15,200km in diameter. The world has a standard gravity between 1G and 1.3G. The horizon will appear about 5.4km away. Vessels with only 1G of thrust should avoid landing on this world.
Mainworld Atmosphere (A)[edit]
Peridot has a pressure of 1.50 to 2.49 atmospheres. A Dense Atmosphere requires no survival gear although it may be hard on sophonts not accustomed to it.
Mainworld Hydrosphere (H)[edit]
Peridot has 85-95% of its surface covered by liquid water with a few small continents, and a number of islands and archipelagos. Dry land is limited. Wilderness refueling is possible.
- Specifically, hydrographic percentage is 91%.
History and Background[edit]
World Starport[edit]
Peridot has a Class B Starport, a good quality installation which includes all the expected amenities including refined fuel for starships, brokerage services for passengers and cargo, and a variety of ship provisions. There is a shipyard capable of doing annual maintenance, overhauls and most kinds of repair, and construction of non-starships. Most ports of this classification have both a Highport and a Downport.
- There is an associated Imperial Naval Base.
Urbanization[edit]
The surface portion of Peridot's starport is located at Perimede, a large city and seat of the planetary government. The orbital portion of the starport is in a geosynchronous orbit directly above the city. Grav vehicles are still rather new, and so transport from city to city is usually by hydrofoil. Peridot's major industry is sea farming, including the export of fish and water plants.
The city of Perimede is built on three large islands and several small surrounding ones. The northern island is dominated by the starport facilities, with the city's fusion power-plant located 1 km off-shore. The western island is mainly residential, but the south end is taken up by sea-farming facilities. Two small islands to the west contain several private estates. The Eastern island contains startown, the government offices, and the downtown business district. More private estates are on the islands to the east, and between the three main islands is Perimede park.
Three underwater tunnels link the main islands, while transport between the other islands is by private boat or grav vehicle. In-city transport is usually by ground car.
